Guest guest
Leigh, My older 10 (non-apraxic) son was diagnosed with tracking problems 18 months ago. Tracking problems are just the eyes not working well together. LD problem because the brain sides are not working together. Your son does not sound like that. Prior to diagnoses I took my son in for eye tests every year or so because he did not seem to see well (ie if there was a deer in the road you would have to stop and wait a minute until would finally see it.) The eye tests showed he had 20/20 vision. However besides tracking there are many visual learning disabilities that I know little about except they don't fit my son. After I found about tracking problems I looked through the yellow pages until I found an eye doctor who specialized in children. Then I called up and asked lots of questions. I found out they knew all about tracking issues so I made an appointment. The initial eye test determined he did have tracking problems but I had to make another appointment for them to do a detailed visual disability test. It cost $125 more but in fairness they were pretty much one on one for 1 1/2 hours with him (not the doctor- he just explained the results). I don't know if they could do an accurate test on a not quite 3 year old. With my 4 year old I'm going to wait until he is older but definantly take him to an eye doctor who will check for visual diabilities.
