Guest guest
Hi -- We're coming up on annual review - my son turns 5 in May. Have been discussing my with son's private therapist the appropriate testing for my son -- his comprehension is high - his problem is expressive language, word-finding, pragmatics, some language processing. The typical tests, CELF, TOLD(TELD), etc. don't get at the root of the problem - He will probably score at age or above on these types of tests - I need suggestions on more appropriate tests, which would be likely to recognized by our school district - If any of you have a " strategy " , I'd appreciate it. Guest guest
My son , turned 5 in August 2001, scored above average on most of the speech and language tests when he was being tested for re-classification. They stopped scoring him when he had reached a comprehensive level of a 12 year old! Basically that put us out of the Communication Impaired category. Luckily the child study team decided that they really needed to look at the whole picture and pushed for a Specific Learning Disability classification in order to get him classified to get him the extra help. At first I was concerned that the classification was not accurate but I guess it serves its purpose and was enrolled in the ECLLD (Early Child Learning and Language Disabled) class. If you encounter the same problem ask your child study team if they can try an alternate classification.
