Guest guest
I would ask Hi, I would look for another RA DR , when I take prednisone it works on me fast. call the Arthritis foundation and they may help you find a DR near your area. Lucy I just came back from my second visit to the rheumatolotist and I am thoroughly disappointed! He basically said he doesn't know what I have...maybe fibromyalgia..he doesn't think RA because it isn't in my wrists. I think he is an idiot. He also said that since I did not respond to the steroid right away (within the first day or two of taking the steroid) that this rules out RA. How does one go about finding a good rheumatologist? Also, How have any of you responded to the steroid when you have a flare..Do you respond within the first day or does it take some time before the severe pain goes away?J Sala

Guest guest
I usually respond the same day to Prednisone (a corticosteroid). If the dose is too small I might not respond at all. What your rheumatologist says makes sense to me. RA is often very hard to diagnose with certainty because so many diseases have something in common with RA. Sometimes the diagnosis is quite clear and other times it may take over a year to get a conclusive diagnosis. The American College of Rheumatology has come up with seven criteria for diagnosing RA and having any four of them is sufficient for a positive diagnosis. These criteria are listed about halfway down at this link. http://www.arthritisinsight.com/medical/disease/ra/ra.html If you still think you have RA you might discuss your reasons for thinking this with your rheumatologist. Good luck and God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: jsala Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Thursday, January 08, 2004 7:51 AM Subject: Advice needed Hi,I just came back from my second visit to the rheumatolotist and I am thoroughly disappointed! Guest guest
When I have had flares I jump my Prednisone up to about 50mg daily for about three days then start tapering off. It usually takes me about three days before the inflamation and swelling start to diminish. I haven't had a flare since the beginning of November. I'm now down to 17.5mg daily. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I take cranberry pill or drink cranberry juice. Part of the problem may be caffiene. genoneone <mwrjmoore@...> wrote: Hello everyone, I am in need of some advice. Our 26 year old son called today from Houston. He had to leave work last night because of pain that was very bad. The emergency room told him it was an urinary track infection. He has had the same diagnoses several times in the last few months. His Dr. says it is very rare for men to have urinary track ifections that he thinks it might be a chronic prostate infection. I know that he was on a very powerful drug the last time but that is not working now so they put him on something else. About 5 months ago he was hospitalized when they thought he was having a heart attack. They ran several test and did not find any thing wrong but did suggest that he might need to have a scope done.He says he is drinking a lot of water. He was cutting back on his salt and on smoking. I'm not too sure what the rest of his diet is like. Is there something that he can do to take care of this infection? The way he talks it will keep reacuring and it is very painful, also means a couple days off work that eats into his vacation time. I told him I would be talking to this group and would pass on any advice.Thank you all for your help.Margaret in IL
Guest guest
It can be confusing... until you're in them alot.. lol.. check the files, under Food and Drink recipes, under soup but omit the lemons for now. Here is is also. Parsley Soup. Juice a bunch of parsley, 3 stalks of celery, fresh marjarom and fresh thyme, 5 tomatoes, three lemons. Mix in 3/4 cup honey. Add 1/3 cup chopped nuts and 5 fresh water chestnuts. This recipe comes from a book called Cook-Less Recipes by Shirley A. Boie. mwrjmoore <mwrjmoore@...> wrote: Hi Suzi, Sorry to bother you but can you tell where the parsley soup recipe will be found. I wish we had a search function in the files. I sure get lost in there. Margaret in IL
