U.S. SUPREME COURT DECIDES FERPA CASE:

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled February 19, 2002 on a case involving the

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The decision in

Owasso Independent School District v. Falvo was a very narrow one

and does not seem to directly affect students with disabilities.

In our Manuals, newsletters and conferences we talk extensively about FERPA.

It is often a subject that is brought up by participants in our chat rooms.

Complete access to your student's records is a beginning point for any

effective advocacy. Sadly, we often mention that we have never been

involved in a case where there was not a violation of the parents' FERPA

rights to have full access to their child's records.
