Yes!

Suggestions, anyone? I've considered " benefit " as what we want

instead of a " cure, " but it sounds too bureaucratic, too much like

" let's give these poor sufferers some alms. "

And, on the other side of " benefit, " we need a word (OTHER than

the word " cure! " ) to name the things that others do (or want to do)

and that those others call " curing " us.

So really we need two words:

one to fill the blank in these sentences -

" That autism expert said he was curing me, but really he was _____ing me "

" What that organization calls a cure, we call instead a[n] ____ " -

and another one to fill the blank in these sentences -

" Nothing in us needs curing; much in us needs ______ing "

" Instead of a 'cure' for our selves, with your help we seek a[n] ____

for ourselves "

Yours for better letters,

Kate Gladstone
