--Have him evaluated by a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist.

They will have M.A. CCC-SLP behind their name. Ask about experience

and specifically with apraxia.(My son had delayed diagnosis because

he was working with someone who had never encountered apraxia and she

didn't have much experience). A SLP should be able to identify if

your son has a speech delay. If your not satisfied get a second

opinion, don't be afraid to ask questions and really investigate.

I would have your son evaluated by a speech therapist. Usually,

doctors don't have the abilities to diagnose speech problems. I had

to push for a speech evaluation for my daughters when they were 2.

My doctor wanted me to wait until they were 3. The doctor was

wrong, and I was right.

Anyway, a good speech therapist will help you.

Dear Darrell,

My only advice to you would be to take him to a Speech

language pathologist at a local hospital that can

diagnose. He needs a full evaluation from someone that

knows about speech disorders. If you do go just wait

to hear what they say don't even mention apraxia until

the near end to see what conclusion they come to on

their own. It may just be a delay, But I am sure that

you would rather make sure now just in case.

Has your son been to any speech Therapist for a

evaluation?

You only mentioned a pediatrician, That person would

not be the person to diagnose Apraxia.

I do wonder where your ex-wife came to the conclusion

of Apraxia?

hope I was helpful and good luck

Sincerely

EIleen mom to JAck also 2yrs 8 months (born May 22)

oral apraxia, Sensory intergration dysfunction and

pdd-nos, and sean 13 months
