Guest guest
hi, i have posted a few times before about my daughter sara (19 months coloboma, vsd, pfo, speech delay, gross motor delay, cognitive delay, choroid plexus cyst, severe ankle pronation, and on and on and on) sara is involved in the early intervention program, and has a bunch of wonderful doctors who are trying their best to help her in every way. the problem we are having right now is this:: the early intervention is only doing speech therapy once a week (she gets pt and ot one day each as well) but her doctors would like to see her get speech therapy 3 times a week. unfortunately there is no way we can afford private therapy. her medical bills are overwhelming us as it is. there is a program (used to be crippled childrens network, cant remember what its called now) that could be of some help to us, but unfortunately we need to meet certain diagnostic criteria that we do not. and our insurance wont cover the therapy because speech delays are not considered a medical condition. so i guess what i need is some kind of diagnosis. i have had the therapists mention apraxia and dyspraxia and a couple of other things, but nobody has " officially " said yes, this is what it is. so what steps do i need to take to get a diagnosis? is a developmental ped the way to go? or neurology? or is it something else?? help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!! p.s i just have to announce that sara, for the first time ever, walked behind her push toy all the way down the hallway!! (can you see my proud mommy smile) =-) thanks in advance tami
