Guest guest Posted January 20, 2002 Report Share Posted January 20, 2002 Hi I wondered if you had any ideas on how to test the reading level of a child who is barely understandable a 6 years 9 months and appears only to understand basic words. But he then picks up books and tracks well he does have glasses for severe long sightedness and picks out words in magazines with no picture prompts like " dopda " (helicopter) we were driving one day to a park and he saw the sign " zoo " " es es me mummy woo now " ( " yes yes me mummy zoo now " ) and my huband who is interested in going into the police force often reads sites on the internet and looks at it no picture prompts again and points to the word police " pee wee oo " (police wee oo) the sound at the end is the siren. He bought a book home from school and read the whole thing to us really basic but still we believe he knows more than he lets on but is it wishful thinking? Right now he is watching everything I am doing and appears to be reading what is on the screen. I asked him now what am writing about " me me " again I ask him and he looks at it what is this about " dadil " () weird! See ya Michele He is asking me if he can go to bed his teddy bear is in the dryer and he wants it now " zzz be me now " " snores bed me now " cute eh?
