Guest guest
Carol! Exactly ! It's like these professionals aren't listening at all. Reading the different reports was really confusing for me because it's like they were talking about a different kid entirely. They ask " Can he pedal a tricycle? " I say " I don't know we don't have one but he probably can " they write in the report " Can not pedal a tricycle " Them: Can he walk up stairs using both legs or only one foot at a time? Me: Sometimes he uses both feet and sometimes he only uses one.. it depends on the day. They write: can't go upstairs using alternating feet. ARGH! ~~ Amber ~~ > Amber, > I know how you feel! At six and a half my son still can't be figured out by doctors so they constantly try to fit him into something they know about and the " autism spectrum disorders " seem to be quite a nice catch -all for kids that present like ours do. It is SO irritating to me as well! In Oct. my son had a day long of tests by a nueropsych doctor at a big fancy medical university complex. On the FRONT page of his report, which came over three months later it says: he has no friends. On his report card from his regular public school kindergarten teacher in January it says: he is very social and has many friends in class. HELLO!!!!?????!!!! But at the end of this doctors report he says: " probably has a pervasive developmental disorder of some kind " ..................OBVIOUSLY he was not listening carefully to me and trying to FIT my kid into a category he was familiar in. Of course there are wonderful medical personnel out there and I think even this guy probably is a wonderful person who really wants to help but I get SO CYNICAL in my search..........I would so much prefer to have someone tell me " we JUST DON'T KNOW " or " it is a mystery to us but we will help you keep searching for answers " know what I mean? Guest guest
That is unbelievable to me that they can make such a diagnoses when they have no idea unless they saw it for themselves. Our children are with us all day long and we know what they can and cannot do. GGGRRRRRRR that just irritates me. My son doesn't have a bike or big wheel either and we are unsure if he can pedal...doesn't mean he CAN'T!!!! He hasn't even tried. That is like asking if your child has training wheels on his bike and asking if he can ride with them off if he wasn't ready too. (even though he can ride the bike!) Make sense??????? Don't let them get to you...YOU know him best. Good luck to you!
