Either call and ask his nurse or just go > buy some and take it. This is standard procedure with Metho. Folic acid is used as a recovery treatment with Methotrexate as Meth. depletes your body of this vital B vitamin. However, instead of taking Folic Acid daily, you can take Leucovorin once weekly, following your Methotrexate dose (usually 8 hours later). Leucovorin is folinic acid - a strong folic acid basically- that only needs to be taken once after every dose of Methotrexate. This works better for me as I have fewer mouth sores now. -
Guest guest
, I have had a sore at the corner of my mouth for a few weeks now. I am taking 1 mg of Folic acid daily to go with my 10 mg of Methotrexate weekly. The sore just doesn't want to heal. I wonder if it is from and lingering due to the Folic acid? My Dr. is weening me off Prednisone. I started at 7.5 mg daily and now do 10 mg every other day. I've only been diagnosed with RA since Mar of theis year. Guest guest
Mouth sores are one of the side effects of methotrexate. I'd recommend warm salt water rinses several times per day and mention it to your rheumy. Guest guest
Jay, you might ask your doctor about using injectible Methotrexate. Some people seem to find it more effective than the pills and with fewer side effects in the mouth and stomach. Good luck and God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jay Bishop Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2003 9:50 PM Subject: Re: Folic Acid or Leucovorin with Methotrexate ,I have had a sore at the corner of my mouth for a few weeks now.
