How old is your son? Have you tried not hiding it at all and just

explaining to him that " this is medicine and you need it because it

will help you in ? way? " I did this right from the start with my

three children, taking medicine directly as is from a spoon was not

optional - ever - and now all 3 are perfectly willing to take it and

as a matter of fact will tell me they are ill and ask to see the

doctor for medicine. And we've had some vile stuff in our time!!

Maybe if you left it for a week so he forgot about it, then tried it

that way, firmly insistent, it might work. If you make the vile

taste part of a joke and let him have a glass of juice in their hand

to drink afterwards so he can feel in control, it can actually be a

funny moment with both of you grimacing with the most awful faces.

And then there is this - you are the adult, you have made the

decision that this is what your child needs, and as such, he does not

have a choice in this matter. If fighting you doesn't work out for

him, he will eventually stop arguing because he'll realise it isn't

worth his energy as you will win out. Good luck

Hello

You don't say whether you are using capsules or liquid. If capsules,

like us, you might try training your son in swallowing them whole.

We used Smarties (M & Ms, if you are in US). We gave him a few of them

with a glass of water and he practised swallowing them whole. Once he

could do it, it wasn't long till he realised he couldn't taste them. At

that point, we got him to swallow the capsules whole, and then gave him

the Smarties to enjoy properly afterwards. He was three at the time,

and it only took a few days till he was confident of the difference

between swallowing and chewing and well in control.

I'd say it's worth a try, if you think your son can do it, because it's

a useful skill for other medications, and also gives the child some

sense of control and cooperation. It may not work, of course. I know

it hasn't worked for everyone.

Hope this is some help.

hi everyone

Here in the UK I take taste-free Cod Liver Oil from Seven Seas. There is no

fishy smell or aftertaste. I just looked at the nutritional info. Each

capsule contains 240mg Omega 3, total EPA and DHA (no split) 190mg

You can have a look at www.neutrataste.com to see if they are suitable for

you.

Hi. My son just turned 3 and he takes lots of medicines a day with

no problems. I tried to do the same with the EFA's but he spit it

back out then vomited. He gags so easilty when it's something he

can't stand. I've put it away for a while and will try again later.

Thanks for the advice,

,

Just started my sons on the ProEfa ( EFA's) about 2 1/2 weeks ago.....they

also would not take it in any food.....sooooo

we came up with an alternate plan;

I put it in a medicine dropper and get it as close to back of their mouthes

as I can without them gagging ( we all know about the gag) this way it's

quick and painless for all....they don't really get a good taste because of

how we do it....

Good luck to you!!!

My two boys (Dylan, almost 3, 1) both are crazy

- I poke a hole in the capsule and they suck the oil

out of it! It's quick and dylan says " mmmm

fishsticks " after he has swallowed it. He takes two

fish oil capsules each night this way - same with the

evening primrose oil capsule. We're just using

generic brands from longs drug stores, and man do they

smell fishy! Infact if the boys burp after taking

them they have fish breath, but I've found that giving

them a little parsley to chew on fixes that.

Hope this helps.

That is exactly what I do. My son is such a picky eater, I'd NEVER be

able to get him to use a spoon. I poke a hole and squeeze it out into

a medicine cup. I draw it up in a syringe, then I draw up just a

little of something like purple grape juice (tart). I squirt it to

the side of his mouth, away from his tongue. The oil goes out first,

then the juice helps the taste. Then I usually will follow with a

chocolate chip morsel for a treat. He's been better at taking it than

I am at remembering to do it. :(
