Guest guest
Hello. My name is Kim. My daughter has verbal apraxia and is also attending a Preschool. If I was in your position, I would do whatever it takes for my child to receive the treatment she needs. You have to stand up for your child because no one else will. She will thank you one day. >Hi, >I really need some advice from you guys. I just received word that the >inclusion class I had thought my daughter could attend next year will not >work for her. There is a new mandate in New York that states that the > " normal " children in an inclusion class now cannot receive any services >whatsoever. (2.8 yrs, verbal apraxia, mild SID) most probably will >not qualify for the special ed half of the class since she has been doing >so >well with ProEFA and a lot of therapy, so we were putting her in the > " normal " >half, but she was still going to get speech and OT, however I was going to >pay for the school itself. Guest guest
You May need to go to another level in the school or state DOE. Inclusion is=LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT. Your child needs and has been granted by Congress, all services deemed nessasary for them to recieve an education. Subject: List of Related Services in IDEA---Un-Exhaustive: OSERS Clarifies that the List of Related Services in IDEA (Section 300.24) is Not Exhaustive In a letter dated June 9, 2000 to the American Music Therapy Association, The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) clarified that the list of related services in IDEA (Section 300.24) is not exhaustive. If a childs IEP team determines that an unlisted service is needed in order for a child with a disability to benefit from special education, it must be included in the IEP and provided at no cost to the family. The OSERS letter emphasized that related service decisions for any particular child must be made based on that childs individual needs. If you are interested in a copy of the OSERS letter, contact the Family & Advocates Partnership for Education (FAPE) coordinating office at: (888) 248-0822 (toll free) (612) 827-7770 (TTY) http://www.fape.org/ Mike Savory SELf*AWAK(e)A-dvocacy © 2001 " Advocacy With Abundant Keys to Excellence and Access " Offering Advocacy in: Community Service, Student Advocacy, & Facilitation (Volunteer & Donations) Adolescence Doesn't Die IT Just Gets Buried !...
