Guest guest
Oddly enough, my apraxic daughter loved school from the beginning, but my " normal gifted " son cried for weeks at the beginning of every school year until kindergarten. What helped with him was promising him that if he didn't cry I would reward him after school. One year it was the 25 cent machines. Later a star chart with a bigger reward after ten stars was effective. Also making play dates with other children in the class helped. What changed in kindergarten was that I put him on the school bus. He absolutely loved it and it seemed as if separating from me at home was easier than at school for him. I became friendly with another mother of a child on the bus and they had regular playdates so this also helped. Its awful sending your child to school that way - I remember watching from the two way mirror by the classroom crying like crazy, but this is a phase that passes, so stay hopeful.
