Guest guest
Hi Maureen! I've asked a few people that are happy with their child's karate school and here is some complied advice. You may not have to travel for hours, and if you go twice a week to karate like my two boys do you may not want to or be able to. It's best to look for a school that offers a free trial lessen. You can then observe before commitment how the class is run -are they more interested in high kicks and perfect form -or a healthy inside (self esteem and a great attitude)? How many instructors are there? -some only have one or two -some have four or five so more instructors to shadow the children that require it. Are there separate classes for younger children? Do they have experience with children with challenges like autism or communication impairments or hypotonia etc. Can they share stories that will touch your heart about those children and their successes? (I know my children's karate school can!) A good karate school practices what they (hopefully) preach in healthy and positive attitude and will not be competitive with other schools in the area and will refer you if they believe that they can not offer you what your child needs but know of another school that may. They will also be honest with you if they don't believe your child is old enough, etc. and will not just look for your tuition money no matter what. I know Dakota and Tanner's school is like that. Most schools start at four. Most important is that you and your child should go to and leave the school feeling happy and good about it. With my boy's karate school it's so positive it's hard not to smile walking in there, and every day we are there children being awarded and applauded! There is a sign in my boys karate school that says " Be nice...children learn by example so set a good one! " Bilker's son http://www.debtsmart.com/talk has been attending karate for years is excelling and loves it (did you see him on Inside Edition's segment on apraxia?) If you are from NJ give me a call -I can suggest a few schools! I have also asked one of the " masters " from one of the karate schools that work with children with apraxia post something here for us! Hope that helps! Thanks also about your email about wanting to donate to the tax except CHERAB nonprofit. I tried to email you personally and my emails keep getting returned. =====
