Guest guest
Do you have an Intermediate Unit in NJ. They will get you started. If not, Call the Easter Seal Society if you have one. Ours has their own school program that Ronal attends
Guest guest
Our school district in San , California is also like that. The class was from 11:30-2:40, my daughters nap time. I put up with it for about 3 months when she was 3. She had very bad temper tantrums every day because she missed her nap. If she fell asleep afterward, she would be up late at night. I finally pulled her out after a bad temper tantrum and she fell asleep in her chair at the school. I put her in a regular morning program private preschool. I then did private speech and OT. Now, we are getting the school district to do just the speech and OT. Good luck. > I joined this list-serv awhile back and although I do > not post I enjoy all the informative information I > gather here. Guest guest
hi kate...if your district is transitioning your son into a preschool disabled program it should state clearly in the IEP about a full day or half day program..i live in jersey city and they have full day programs, but it is a state law that classes with children under 5 must nap ( that's what i was told)...perhaps a public school setting has full day rather than choosing times in a daycare setting ...if you can't find a program that you like, maybe you have to go out of district...it doesn't make sense that a half day program still requires the kids to nap...they'd be missing out on the whole purpose...hope this little bit helps...good luck...JoAnn --- Otto <perkotto@...> wrote: > I joined this list-serv awhile back and although I > do > not post I enjoy all the informative information I > gather here. Guest guest
Kate, Not sure if my experience will help you or not but, my daughter suffers from a sleep disorder among the dyspraxia issues. One year her EI only had class offered during a time that conflicted with her VERY STRICT sleep regimen. At an IFSP I brought that up and explained the situation. The I in IFSP means " individualized " . So the program in my opinion needed to do that. I guess that worked in my case because suddenly they offered her another placement at a different EI site but it met at a much nicer time. It worked out well in our case. I'm sure someone on this list has better info for you but I'd fight that tooth and nail. Your child isn't supposed to fit into a notch in their already set-up system. That isn't individualized and doesn't meet his NEEDS. Needs is the key. If it is just inconvenient then they don't have to accommodate. Tammy S in Oregon [ ] Need some information please... I joined this list-serv awhile back and although I do not post I enjoy all the informative information I gather here. I am now in some need of some information and hope someone out there can help. I recently began " transition " from EI to the school system here in NJ. I was " blown away " to learn that my school systems' preschool handicap program for the 3 y/o's meet daily from 12:45 to 2:45. Polling numerous daycare centers in my area I found that this is always nap/rest time. I know putting my son on the bus at noon that he will be asleep by the time he reaches school. I feel that the time they are setting school for this age group is not optimal learning time and that he will not get the full benefit of school program...has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have information that could help me get a change for my sons' schedule? The other elementary school in my district has it's preschool program in the mornings and I would like to see him in that program but feel I need some " scientific " backup to support my wishes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kate (mother of Will, verbal apraxia)
Guest guest
Kate, Have you checked to see if there is a morning session? Most programs have 2 sessions. E-mail me privatly as I live in NJ, also. Ilene, Toms River, NJ
