Guest guest
I recommend eating with the season. The tastes that help balance the melting of nature (and the softening of the body) are astringent, bitter, and pungent with the qualities of warm, dry, and light. Sprouts, bitter leafy greens, dry fruit, lentils, beans make excellent choices to include more of while starting to taper the heavier foods of winter. I'm not familiar enough with the GAPS diet to make specific GAPS recommendations - but I bet you are able to make choices within that diet to choose more astringent, bitter and pungent foods that suit your bioindividuality. I would be happy to have you join in a cooking class I'm teaching on this very subject. a Spring Eating Cooking Class in Eden Prairie on March 21st from 10 am to noon. Attendees will learn more about how to choose foods to balance the softening going on. Please contact me off line to find out more details. I feel really worn out and tired and have a pressure feeling in my head. I am sure the symptoms vary but i think it is all the old melting off from the snow, or maybe even some pollen from trees and grass. Anyone have suggestions that would help that are all natural?..foods, read, herbs? thanks >
Guest guest
I have had tremendous luck " treating " my seasonal allergies with local raw unfiltered honey. There is scientific evidence supporting the notion that if you eat (not just breath) the allergens in your local area, your body is much more likely to be able to have an approriate response to them. I was a claritin addict for years but never needed it last spring or fall. I have the rare advantage of eating raw honeycomb from bees on my own property (it doesn't get more local or raw than that) but if you can find fairly local, raw and prefferably unfiltered honey, give it a try. just a tsp a day works for me. Symptoms lessened in just a few days and quickly return if i forget the honey for a couple of days in a row. Works for my 9 yr old too and he doesn't argue about " taking " his honey (i also make the kids a high fat version as a treat where I mix a tsp of raw honey or comb honey with a Tbsp of coconut oil and a Tbsp of raw spring butter) Gene
Guest guest
Caroline, Yesterday I had an allergist appointment. According to them, mold and tree pollens are very high right now. More typical for April and May. So whatever you do in the spring for your allergies, get started! Guest guest
I have pretty good luck with quercitin and nettles - I take Source Naturals Activated Quercitin and Planetary Formulas Freeze Dried Stinging Nettles, both on subscribe and save from Amazon. I had tried it once a long time ago, and I don't think the nettles were as good, so did not notice much improvement, then tried a few brands, and this combo seems to work pretty well. Not complete relief, but pretty darn close! I take two quercitin and one nettle tablet, morning and evening. I do it pretty much year round, since I have a problem with dust mites, but I usually get increased misery in the spring especially, and a little in the fall, and this definitely helps moderate that. I am very slightly phlegmy, and maybe a little more tired than usual - not the horrible headaches, exhaustion, stuffiness, etc, that I used to suffer.
