Guest guest
Some people have seen success with other brands. I would make sure that it was tested for purity (mercury free). ALso check the components to see if it has similiar dosages and ingredients to what you are using. There is only one way to know if it will work for your child, see what type of results you have and you can always switch back. denise > I am currently using the ProEfa by Nordic Naturals for my son and was > wondering if anyone has used the one by Natrol/Prolab? Guest guest
is correct in saying that people have had success with other brands " but " as always it's the formula that works not the name -so check the labels first and then make educated decisions. Please don't just go by the name alone since ProEFA is not a trademarked name. ette from our group in Washington makes up a cheaper version of the Nordic Naturals ProEFA by going to a Longs drug store and purchasing fish oil and primrose oil separate and mixing with great results. ette is the one person I refer to as trying a cheaper way successfully. Yes other brands are in a handful of cases better for a few children -the formula for the Nordic Naturals ProEFA overall is better for most. Of course if you guys have children that respond to other brands please let us know the label doses going ahead vs just the namebrand. ProEFA by Prolab is a formula made of Flax Seed Oil - 400mg (Supplying Alpha Linolenic Acid, Linoleic Acid, Oleic Acid) * Borage Oil - 400mg (Supplying Palitic Acid, Gamma Linolenic Acid) * Omega-3 Oil - 400mg (Supplying Docosahexanoic Acid, Elcosapentanoic Acid) ProEFA by Nordic Naturals which is made of fish and borage alone Docosahexanoic Acid -99mg Elcosapentanoic Acid -148 mg Gamma Linolenic Acid - 40 mg (borage oil - 180 mg) The only simalarity as you can see if the name ProEFA -which means nothing. Prolab doesn't specify how much DHA to EPA and I believe that to be an important point for us as parents to know when supplementing now based on what we are seeing. In a quick search I see that Prolab products are highly recommended by body builders -and most research I found for Prolab online is for body building -not children and learning disorders. I did find a Purina Prolab research award for pet food at http://www.cvm.ncsu.edu:8110/research/rtbaalas/forms.html but I couldn't find out if the Purina Prolab division is part of Prolab for body builders. You can as says just try it if in fact Prolab is a reputable company and you want to try different dosages of DHA, EPA and GLA. I would first see if you can find out more details about the specific amounts of DHA and EPA. =====
Guest guest
Hi , I am still new to this...and a little confused. The Coromega(Ornage Flavor).. Do parents use this product? > You can as says just try it if in fact Prolab > is a reputable > company and you want to try different dosages of > DHA, EPA and GLA. Guest guest
Hi , The Coromega is a great product from a reputable company from what I've heard. http://www.coromega.com They are one of the sites that offer free samples -but most will if you contact and ask (in many businesses not just fish oil) There are a few parents who find the coromega successful -but most find the Omega 3/6 formula's more successful. The GLA is the Omega 6. Again, overall we as a group anecdotally (check archives here and other grouplists online - especially unmoderated ones) found the best formula is when our children are on a mixture of Omega 3 (with both DHA and EPA) and Omega 6 (GLA from primrose or borage oil) Could have to do with the anti inflammatory properties of the GLA that help the DHA to get to where it needs to go in the small vessels of the brain? Coromega is a great product to try again if you are looking for a Omega 3 product alone. I would rate the ProEFA formula from Nordic Naturals the best and Efalex the second best from what I've seen from our group. Again -I've heard only good things about Coromega too from those few parents who have found success with this formula. Most (again) find their kids do better (more dramatic results) on the Omega 3/6 formulas. I know it's confusing at first. It gets easier though once you see what works for your child -you just start to know it because you have to. (it's not like most vitamins that have lots of information to look up, etc.) =====
