Guest guest
I haven't posted since the first of the year. At that point I had just enrolled my daughter in gymnastics and started giving her ProEFA consistently. At Christmas she still wasn't making many aproximations. Now, only 3 mths later she can aproximate ANY word her speech therapist gives her. They actually want to decrease her speech therapy to only twice a week (to which I opposed) but that just shows how well she is doing. I can now pretty much understand anything she says to me, as long as I pay attention to any visual clues included. She is also using up to 4 word sentences occasionally...which just blows me away as I can clearly recall a few mths ago her struggling for just one word. As far as gymnastics that has become her highlight of the week. Its a chore to convince her to take her leotard off afterward. The teachers spot her in everything she does and she gets lots of individual attention. Also, they really emphasize that you " win " whenever you try your best and the kids are awarded accordingly. If you try hard, keep a positive attitude you are awarded after each class, no matter how well you actually did. Because of this she feels like she is excelling at something, which in turn has helped her socially. Gymnastics start at 3 so if you want to check into that, especially for girls as opposed to karate (not saying karate is bad for girls!, just thought to mention this as an alternative) But as said, each center is different, so you would have to check them out. Good luck to everyone...keep on keeping on...one of these days you will hear your little darling tell you they love you. It's the best feeling, especially when you've waited over 3 yrs to hear it!
