Guest guest
Hi, 1. Are you referring to Children's Hospital in Aurora(Denver)? We started our son's scoli journey there with Risser casts but did not have a good experience. Our doctor/staff were totally inaccessible! Through , the founder of this list, we now have a wonderful orthopedic surgeon who is trained to do proper EDF/Mehta casts. Making the switch wasn't difficult. Please feel free to email me privately if you would be interested in details. : ) 2. Our son's reflux became severe with the addition of a cast - just too much pressure on his tummy. He is now on daily reflux meds. Because of other medical complications he was out of cast for 7 months and we saw no reflux at all. Now back in the cast, we can hear it happening throughout the day. Try smaller amounts at a time and see if that helps, or get your pediatrician's input. -Patrice On 05/30/2012 4:09 PM, abbeymuniz wrote: Hi guys! My daughter is currently on her first Risser cast for a treatment of a 31 degree curvature and I am having difficulties with our doctor and his office. I have called and emailed them numerous times and do not ever get a call back. So, I have two questions. 1. She is currently being seen at Childrens hospital of Colorado, Does anyone know if it would be difficult to switch to a different spine doc for her, and if so, how would I go about making the change. I am just so unhappy with the care that has been provided from my doctors assistant in particular because she never returns my calls or answers my questions (as if this is an easy process anyhow, right!?) 2. My daughter is 13 months old and hasnt spit up since she was 3 months old. Now, all the sudden, after every meal or bottle (NO MATTER WHAT) she spits up whole food or milk. And its alot more than typical baby spit up. Anyone ever had this happen? If so, what did you do to take care of it?
Guest guest
I forgot to add that the Shriner's hospitals apply the proper EDF/Mehta casts also - I've heard many positive/wonderful things about the experiences parents here have had with Shriner's. I'm sure you'll hear from them! : ) On 05/30/2012 4:38 PM, Patrice Scheck wrote: Hi, 1. Are you referring to Children's Hospital in Aurora(Denver)? Guest guest
First off if you are not happy with your current doc or treatment center I would get another opinion! It is a long process & you don't want to " waste " that precious growth window she is in now with treatment you do not believe is working. My son started with a 31* curve & 15-20* rotation with an RVAD of 10 & we casted at exactly 20 months of age at Shriner's in Salt Lake City Utah. (We live in Eastern NE) We usually fly (there are direct flights from Denver) but this next time we are going to try the drive. We LOVE it there! The care coordinator calls back every time no more then one day later & we have had great results. Our son is now in what they say will be his last cast (as long as he holds steady in a brace). This is #4 & when it is removed he will be exactly 29 months old. He has thrown up a minimal amount. The most being the last 2 weeks in his 3rd cast, other then that maybe 1-2 times in the first two casts. Best of luck & if you want any more info on SLC just email me Amber > Hi guys! Guest guest
Sorry, to hear she is not comfortable in her cast. Im sure you've tried smaller meals....Is she doing any better today? If not, I would definitely demand a visit. It could be remedied with a simple trimming? Please contact me direct if things have not yet improved and/or you havent had luck reaching them. Im in Denver. HRH (303) 507 2485 > Hi guys! My daughter is currently on her first Risser cast for a treatment > of a 31 degree curvature and I am having difficulties with our doctor and > his office. Guest guest
You guys have been so great to have! I dont know what we would do without you all! Thanks! I am thinking that I am going to look into a different doctor, including Shriner's! Thanks for all your help! Oh, and they loosened her cast at the bottom on Friday (with much reluctance) but she hasn't spit up since. It was pretty tight. Thanks! > > Hi guys!
