Hiding Fish Oil in Food -- Tips

Our son is a couple months shy of three. Direct ingestion of the

fish oil just isn't going to happen, so we've been hiding it in some

food.

Here are some things that have worked for us:

Scrambled Eggs

===============

The best way is to first separate the yolk and egg white. Open the

capsule and squeeze the oil into a bowl with the yolk. Beat the

yolk/oil mixture until the mixture just begins to emulsify together

(keep whipping and add more oil and you'll have DHA Mayonnaise!).

Add egg white and milk and any seasonings. We add some hot pepper

sauce, light salt, and ground black pepper. Mix and cook like normal

scrambled eggs.

We add a half-slice of American cheese and serve with Ketchup. Our

son loves to dip food in ketchup, and the vinegary mixture helps mask

the flavor some.

Waffles

============

We've found that popping one capsule and drizzling over a waffle is

working. We let it soak in, then cut the waffle into bite-sized

pieces. Our son dips the waffle in syrup and the flavor is masked

enough to handle.

Other thoughts:

We've recently been trying some supplements with a diminsished fish

flavor. This formula is also concentrated so our son gets his 240 mg

of DHA with just a bit more than one TSP. We can get the whole day's

dose on one waffle.

We're not using " Learning Factors " oil right now because the DHA

concentration isn't enough for us (we're following the Stordy

recommendations in her book for 240mg of DHA). But that oil has a

lemony taste so we could sneak it onto PB & J sandwiches and

waffles/pancakes with abandon.

I gave up drizzling the fish oil over pizza and pasta. He really

noticed the flavor, and since he's eating well, I don't want to ruin

EVERY dish he eats with the fishy flavor.

Anyone else have more ideas?
