Guest guest
, I don't know why you chose this church but perhaps you should try some others. I assure you if you were attending our chuch you would get a warm welcome and perhaps an offer of help. For example there is a wonderful lady (she teaches my 4th graders religious education class) who has an adult mentally disabled (I do not know diagnoses) son. I have never seen him approached with anything besides compassion. Recently when I was working in nursery (I help out with younger children of people teaching RE classes) she approached me and asked if her newly adopted (IQ-70) son could help out.I assure you no one in that nursery minded and the fact is he was a great help. Although he needed some direction and reminders like (here is a paper towel so he would not wipe dirty hands on clean church pants) he also was more of a help than most of teenagers that volunteer (girls generally only want to work with babys and set up future baby sitting jobs and boys come in to flirt with girls. This young man went and got snacks and made sure each child had one and the children were very comfortable with him (usually young children are less responsive to male than female) and unlike other teenage boys he did not just wind up kids and leave. My age 4 ds is apraxic and when I started going to this church and explained why he was not talking they were very supportive and when found out I knew some sign language they asked me to show signs for religious song some of kids were going to sing and thought signs would make it better. There are a large number of families with young children in our parish and we are never begrudged having them attend (although there is a nursery offered). Everyone is understanding of the parent who trys to comfort and quiet child for a few minutes instead of instantly removing child. Our last priest was known for picking up wondering children and continueing sermon with toddler in his arms. To me this is what a church should be. No one judging and everyone helping out. I believe any church (regardless of faith or denomination)should offer this. To find this church we had to try out several different ones (including others of same denomination) until we found one that fit us and our unique children. Best of luck. Guest guest
Thanks Dawn for your post! It has been two years in our parish and my older girls attend CCD Class.. They have made friends and I really would not want to up-root them. Our church is small and where I live the neighboring Township..well let's just say that you can not find a house under 1/2 million. Some of our church members think they live on that side and attitude steps in... Since I have the agreement of our Pastor.. I think I will stay and educate. But, Thanks for all your support! > , > I don't know why you chose this church but perhaps > you should try some > others.
