Guest guest
My 7 year old son is on trileptal. May 03 Noah went into status epileptus. He had had seizures before but was not on a seizure med. He was immediately given dilantin in ER at Texas Childrens. He stayed on dilantin from May to Dec. During which time his seizures became more regular, every 5 to 10 weeks(his seizures always come with a stomach ache). I changed Neurologist and changed to trileptal. He has done better on trileptal. It seems to have less side effects for my child. I have spoken to a mother at our school whose son is on trileptal, he does not have seizures. The mom reported his grades and overall demeanor improved, he is ADD. I hope this helps. If you have any more questions please do not hesitate to ask. Dawn --- CJ <mayflowers@...> wrote: --------------------------------- Has anyone had any experience with Trileptal? If so, what was your experience? There has been a lot of talk about seizures lately. My dh, in a sleep study, exhibited seizure activity. He goes for an EEG on Thursday. He has been prescribed Trileptal as a mood stabilizer. Any input would be greatly appreciated. And since we have autistic kids, what do you think this discovery could mean in regards to their problems? Thanks

Guest guest
Hi, My 8 year old son is on trileptal for mood - he has been on it since Sept. 2003 - he was a real bear last summer and the trileptal was something that really helped. He doesn't seem to have any side effects other than he has gotten one sunburn and has tanned a little easier this summer...I really slather him up and this year he seems more tan than summers past. Guest guest
Hi, It could mean a lot for some kids. You may want to look at some of the studies--don't have time to look for them right now. Some very violent kids have been helped with anti-seizure meds---calming of the brain areas that were " misfiring or irritated " . After going on these meds, the child appears so much happier and the violence/aggression is reduced or eliminated. We did a 6 hour sleep EEG/MRI that showed spikes in a few areas of the brain. My son did a trial of Depakote when he was 3 with improvements that eventually wore off and he became more grumpy. We changed to Trileptal and loved what we saw but he broke out in a horrible rash--one of the only side-effects of this drug. We were very disappointed but I am glad that things are going well for other families using this. We have seen improvements with GABA and Tryptophan for mood and sleep. Guest guest
My son has been taking Trileptal for the past 6 months for seizures. I am not sure how it will help with behavior. It has not seemed to help his seizures though so we may take him off it. I have not noticed any side effects. He is nonverbal so he wouldn't be able to tell me but nothing is obvious. He takes liquid and it takes good so that has made it easier. Trileptal All, I am looking for some feedback on Trileptal. My youngest son, 3.11, was prescribed this yesterday based on increased activity shown in his EEG. I am looking for anything related to your experiences with the med, side effects, efficacy, etc. We have not started the meds yet as we have to get some blood work done first but have not as yet decided whether or not to fill the prescription. Guest guest
I have autism as well as a couple of comorbid disorders, including Bipolar, ocd issues, anxiety, ptsd, etc. This medication was DISASTROUS for me. It made me so loopy and dissociative that I ended up in a four car crash with no idea how I got there. Scary, scary drug, at least for me. I would NOT recommend it, but then, everyone is different. I know this is going to sound strange, but plain, good old Benadryl works best for my son's and my own's worst episodes as a PRN, and it works FAST (especially in liquid form), and as a preventative before known triggering/stressful events/situations. It has been used and approved by both my son's and my own psychiatrists for anxiety/irritability purposes, and is great for preventing and/or pulling someone out of sensory overstimulation/overload/shutdown. Much better to use a mild drug if you can than a heavier psychotropic or antipsychotic drug if possible. Posted by: "Mom" ritzywright@... ritzywright Mon May 28, 2012 9:42 am (PDT) Is anyone familiar with this drug. My son has a lot of trouble with anxiety, ocd, hyperactivity, and irritability. Does anyone have a child with similar traits? What has worked to calm them? Thanks,D.

Guest guest
My son has been on Abilify for over 2 years. It is harming him physically. Can you tell me anything else about the benedryl. He has a problem with most allergy meds; zyrtec, periactin, etc. From: Vivace <rachel_vivace@...>Subject: Re: Trileptal"autism" <autism >Date: Tuesday, May 29, 2012, 3:14 PM I have autism as well as a couple of comorbid disorders, including Bipolar, ocd issues, anxiety, ptsd, etc. This medication was DISASTROUS for me. Guest guest
Benadryl is an OTC antihistamine. It is cheap (about $4 for 100 tabs of the generic at Walmart and Dollar General) It is pretty mild, can take up to every 4-6 hrs if need be. It works better on me than anything else to calm anxiety and reduce sensory difficulties; I have been taking it since I was about 15 for that (and I'm nearing 37 now, and it still works for me). It is actually also approved for use for moderate to severe allergic reactions as well if you don't have an epipen around, so it actually should be safe for most people who have problems with severe allergies. It has been around a fairly long time. If your child is sensitive to dyes, there is a dye-free version. I couldn't take Abilify either (made me incredibly anxious and irritable), but it has helped my boyfriend in the past.
Guest guest
Does anyone know about the drug Trileptal? I asked that we do a trial of a blood pressure drug for my son's explosive behavior, but the doc flatly refused. The options he gave were Trileptal and Zyprexa. We haven't started the Trileptal. Still trying to research it. I need any info I can find. Thanks for your help. D.
