Guest guest
Hi Theresa! My son was originally diagnosed as having a severe articulation disorder. Last month he was finally diagnosed with apraxia. For the year and a half prior to getting this diagnosis he has been in speech therapy but was not making any significant progress. In December, we went outside of the school system for an independent evaluation. The SLP originally used a standard test to evaluate Braden and she backed up his original diagnosis. However, in January, she gave Braden the Kaufman Praxia test and he definitely has apraxia. It is my understanding that traditional approaches to therapy do not work with kids who have apraxia. So, yes, the treatment plan would be different. I hope this helps. > Hi everyone, I am new here. My 4 yr old son has a speech delay, > specifically his articulation. Guest guest
, The more I dig, the more answers I'm finding. Thanks for your post! Can you tell me what, on this Kaufman test, made the difference? What took your son from having a regular delay to having Apraxia? Before I go to the therapist, I'm trying to rule out all arguments they may have. Also, regarding you taking your son outside the system for tests, were you responsible for paying for these tests? That is my next problem, is the school required to pay for this if they are not equipped with this knowledge, shouldn't they be responsible for paying for the testing? Appreciate your taking the time to help me out! I'm stuck and confused, but digging out! Theresa ....she gave Braden the Kaufman Praxia test and he definitely > has apraxia. Guest guest
My little one took the Kaufman test too and he definitely has it as well. His SLP gave it to him and the cards she uses with him are by Kaufman.
