Guest guest
Hey !! I am so glad to hear that your daughter is doing better...be sure to give her lot's of choices and make food available to her all the time. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!! Many people don't understand how scary and depressing it is when your child refuses to eat, it seems like food becomes a focal point for the family. I still help to feed my kids because it is so hard to get out of the habit of pushing food in their mouths!! People always tell me to just put the food in front of them and if they eat they eat, if they don't they don't.....needless to say this is not an option when you have a child who will not eat!! I started out with the plain cups with white plastic lids (playskool??) I took the piece out on the inside of the top so the drink would " pour " out of the spout. I would have to help him, but it helped him to learn how to position his mouth on the spout and I would tip the cup so he would get his drink. Needless to say I could not just give him the cup or he would spill every time. Then we got the cup that has the rubber straw. He liked that better than regular staws because he could chew on it (great for sensory issues!). It took him a while to learn to suck, but once he did he liked it. We taught him how to suck out of a staw by placing our finger on a straw and pulling it out of the cup with liquid in it. We would place the end in his mouth and let the liquid out. We would hold it longer and longer to get him to start sucking the liquid, then one day it just clicked!! I know you will find what works for you, just keep trying. We also have a cabinet full of all different sippy cups.... Have you tried helping your daughter drink out of a regular cup?? We started (and are still using) the dixie cups because they are small and can fit into their hands. Don't put ice in the cup because it is hard to sip out of a cup with ice hitting your lips. Once it gets warm outside you can put her outside with some cups and water and let her " experiment " for herself. Just some ideas - I hope they help!! Please keep informed on her eating, I know how hard this is for you and I will help in anyway that I can!! [ ] Re: something wrong > , > > I really appreciate you sharing about your son.
