Guest guest
I use either green, black or white tea, always organic, brand hasn't seemed to make much of a difference at all.? Have only used bags up to this point.? Planning to try Ooolong tea next.? Has anyone else used Ooolong?? What Tea Do You Use? I am wondering what brand/types of tea does everyone use to make their KT? I've heard mixed reviews about different brands and black vs. green, etc. Do you use tea bags or loose tea? I'm just wondering what works for everyone and if anyone has found that magic brand or type of tea?
Guest guest
" Planning to try Ooolong tea next.? Has anyone else used Ooolong?? " I have just tried the Oolong tea and it is very tasty. I was hoping that it would be even better with the Kombucha goodness added in for dieting.. don't know yet, only been drinking for about 3 days, no results yet. Guest guest
I only use organic loose leaf tea. Would be the case even if I didn't own a tea shop. Would far prefer to have organic products whenever possible. We are, after all, drinking KT for our health, are we not? My favorite KT is from green tea. My favorite is Makaibari Green. Beyond being organic, it is single estate, fair trade and biodynamic. I prefer a squirt of organic lemon in the 1st ferment. I use one ounce per gallon, which is more than most use, but i figure the extra antioxidants can't hurt and for $3.00 a gallon it's affordable. Hope this helps! Guest guest
My second favorite KT is from a light oolong. Jasmine oolongs are quite nice if you like floral (make sure your jasmine is scented, not flavored ... oils may taint your results) Other oolongs I have used with great success are Pouchong/Bao Zhong and Tung Ting (not yet on the website). Oolongs are pricier due to the exacting processing needed, but are well worth the additional cost. The taste of a good oolong is unparalleled. I've also had great results with an oolong from the Wuyi region of China called Nine Dragons Oolong. Not on the website yet, but the perfect tea for those who enjoy Chinese restaurant tea. Hope this helps! Guest guest
According to the Kitchen Kop, you can use regular Lipton tea; it is grown without pesticides. Guest guest
Hi EveryOne, You have to take everything you read about Kombucha with a " grain of salt " . There are many errors in this article from beginning to end.... http://www.kellythekitchenkop.com/search/label/Kombucha%20tea There is a great deal of misinformation on the web and even in books about Kombucha. So many people pose as " experts " and then keep perpetuating their own ignorance, - which just leads to confusion among those learning about Kombucha. Please read the posts on this list, ask questions, check out the files, links etc. and then make up your own mind about what is right for you. Making Kombucha is really a very simple process and does not need to be approached with fear or intimidation. If you can make a good cup of tea, you can make Kombucha! After all, you make the " cuppa " tea and the Kombucha makes it into Kombucha tea for you. Happy, Healthy Brewing EveryOne! " I do enjoy trying different teas. It's fun to experiment to see what kind of flavor you get. I have two 21/2 gallon kegs, and I have a different tea going in each one. I really like Earl Grey and I've also used a black tea that had natural peach flavor in it, as well as a black tea that had black current in it. The " fruity " flavors are very nice! I don't always buy organic...sometimes out of convenience I just go to our Sentry store, and they have a very nice selection of teas(I always use bags). I think " STASH " brand makes an excellent tea. I tried their Chai spice black tea...very yummy...my hubby loves it! Oolong is also my favorite! I always do black tea, with green and white! " There! " Didn't mean to write a book..lol! Happy brewing!

Guest guest
The best kombucha brew I ever made, was more than a few years ago, and was with a black tea which my parents had brought home with them, from a trip to Russia. The Russians like their tea, and brewed to full strength in a metal urn called a samovar, it is drunk, similar in the fashion that American families gather 'round, brew, and drink coffee. This was strong russian black tea, and it made very strong kombucha as well. The health benefits I experienced were just incredible (stronger the better too), and quite unlike any other tea I've ever had since. However, if memory serves correctly, this tea could be a little pricey, but I'd like to get some of that again for sure, as the health benefits certainly outweighed the cost when kombucha was made using this particular tea. Healthfully, john d.
Guest guest
I thought cider vinegar was not desirable because of the possibility of vinegar eels. http://www.happyherbalist.com/cautions.htm > > Kurt, > I use black pecoe 4 bags, Chamomile 2 bags, 6 bags of green tea in 3 1/2 gallons of water, 2 cups strong KT, 1 1/2 Tablespoon cider vinegar and 1 2/3 cups of sugar in my mix.
