Guest guest
I know sometimes I feel like I could have been the cause of my childs Apraxia, then I came to the realization that my child is exactly what the Lord meant for them to be. Some things we just don't have control over. As for forcing a child to decide to be either left handed or right, personally, I am a " lefty " and can remember the teacher turning my paper and making me try to be a " righty " . It was very frustrating. I also have 3 kids, 2 are right handed, and one is a lefty. I am ambidextrous. I can't imagine a person of intelligence suggesting that a parent encourage a child to " pick one " hand to be dominant. How special is the child that has the ability to use both hands. I also think when a child gets old enough, and is writing, they will decide on their own which hand is more coordinated for them to use for writing. I would let the child decide and just encourage them in their choice. Just my opinion, good luck to you. mom to 3 great kids!
Guest guest
I have to agree!!! I too am ambidextrous and I feel very fortunate. I write with both hands. I write on paper with my left hand and I write on a chalk board with my right. The only thing I would view as a possible problem is: When I was in elementary school my mom bought my left handed scissors. I went home from school that night and I told her that they didn't work. She said, " Show me. " I began cutting with my right hand. She had to go back to the store and buy right handed scissors. Who knows, by now they may not make left or right handed scissors. Another thing was my mom tried to teach me to tie my shoes and I just couldn't get it. My grandma, who is also ambidextrous, showed me how to right handed and I caught right on. So, beware of these types of issues, other then that let your child choose which hand they wish to use for different things, it will benefit them in the long run. Just my 2 cents. >I am ambidextrous. Guest guest
Re: hand preference I am a lefty, almost 70 years old. My cousin who is 2 years older than me was also a lefty but was " corrected " to use her right hand. Her writing is terrible. Some letters are capitalized, some aren;t. They slant in all different directions. She has had emotional problems. I'm the lucky one because I was born 2 years later than her and then it was decided not to " correct " the lefty. I didn;t know in this day and age that this thing was still going on. " Lefties have rights too. " Dot
