Guest guest
I am finally about ready to try my first batch of Kombucha. A friend gave me a scoby a few weeks ago and it has been sitting in a plastic bag in the fridge for some time (before even giving it to me I believe). There is maybe 1/4 to 1/2 cup of tea in the bag with it, but it seems like the scoby is a pretty good size and I'm wondering if it is too big? It appears to be at least 4-5 " in diameter and maybe 1/2 " or more thick. Should I still go by the basic brewing instructions re: amount of tea, water and sugar to use? Might it brew slower due to refrigeration, or faster due to size? Thanks in advance, Jolene
Guest guest
Ahh, Jolene....in the future, remember that SCOBYs really don't like the cold! They store fine at room temperature. It may, indeed, have slowed things down so that it will take longer to get going. Otherwise, all the ingredients remain the same. Good luck, and let us know how it goes for you.... :-) Gayle About to try first batch...large scoby been sitting in fridge >I am finally about ready to try my first batch of Kombucha.
