Earl Grey Tea

I bought two Scobys - gave one away - she made her Brewed tea out of

Earl Grey - it made a new baby scoby - looks and tastes fine -

The question is: Is her KT okay ? I read here in the msg's that you

should not USE Earl Grey - it destoys the bacteria !

So... should she {my friend} wash the scoby's OFF w/Vinegar - and re-

use making her next brew w/green or black tea - or just throw it all

away - tea and scobys - and begin again ?

Also... I would like to know: Where [if anyone knows] - I can buy some

BEER Bottles and the TOPS ya'll are talking about -

Thank you - anyone that replies... LT

LT...

I know that Margret has used Earl Grey frequently. I don't know if

she uses it alone or in conjunction with other teas.

Don't panic until we hear from her!!!!

If it tastes OK and made a new baby I wouldn't be too worried, I do

believe one of our Mods also uses Earl Grey.

Check ebay for the grolsch bottles.

Gayle and LT, here I am! ;-)

From my experience and that of a late Kombucha list Mother I can reassure

you that Earl Grey is an absolutely wonderful tea to use for Kombucha.

Most of the time I do use it together with other teas, because it brings

such a beautiful aroma into the finished KT.

I use both black and green Earl Grey that way.

So, to answer your question: Yes, your friend's Earl Grey KT is fine and

she can carry on brewing with it.

The oil of Bergamot which is used to flavour that tea does not seem to have

any negative effect on the Kombucha culture, neither has the Jasmine flour

in Green Jasmine tea, which is one of my favourites for KT.

Hope you find that reassuring!

Happy weekend,

Margret:-)

Hi LT and EveryOne,

Colleen who owned this Original Kombucha list for several years

used to make her KT with Early Grey tea and honey.....worked for her....

While it is generally not recommended to use teas with volatile oils

to make Kombucha, Early Grey seems to be an exception. I sometimes mix

a bit of Earl Grey in with some Green Tea to make my Kombucha and it

always comes out very well and delicious.

Peace, Love and Harmony,

Bev

First let me say " Hi " to everybody . I have been reading the posts

from this group for a while and have learned a lot.

Thanks to everyone! I think they might be a lot of us that are

reading but feel that they have no interesting input so we remain

sleeping members but we are learning a lot.

For once, I have something to add: It's about the swing top bottles

that LT was asking about. Grolsch beer bottles can be bought, drank and

used. I don't know if they are sold everywhere around the world but

here, in Hong Kong, we can find them in bars and in supermarkets.

In Ikea, they also have swing top bottles. Those bottles are a little

bigger than the Grolsch bottles. They are 1 litre transparent glass

bottles.

I bought a few myself and I have used them for my last brew. The

stopper is a little thin I must say so I don't know if they are going

to last but apart from

that they are nice.

be well

We have an IKEA near us in TX. Could you tell me the name of the bottles

that Ikea has?
