Guest guest
What a great idea. It would be fun to get together with everyone in something other than a " meeting " setting. And I have no doubt that the kids would have a blast. Keep us posted. Janet
Guest guest
Yeah Jeannie!! You are officially awarded the " CHERAB gold star of the day " !! Jeannie Buesser who was just featured in the February 2002 Exceptional Parent magazine http://www.exceptionalparent.com/welcome/magazine/feb02_magazine.htm is President and Founder of the nonprofit Apraxia Network of Bergan County -and Outreach Coordinator for the nonprofit CHERAB Foundation, and the librarian and facilitator for the nonprofit Compassionate Friends works very hard (all volunteer) to help all of us and I for one appreciate all she does to reach out to help. Right now I am assisting Jeannie on the Apraxia Network of Bergan County's Third Annual Apraxia Day Picnic which keeps growing every year! (pictures from last year at http://community.nj.com/cc/apraxianetworkofbergencountyro? display=gallery I'm going to be putting up a page at http://www.apraxia.cc for all the details of this year's picnic very soon - here is the Spring 2002 apraxia day picnic outline Jeanne just emailed to me: Sat may 4th, 2002 from 11am- 3pm Sign in/registration name tags Coloring eggs/table assistant 11am games start- simon says, or roll the ball, in grass field near parking lot 4 12pm- pizza served 1pm- Entertainment for the children 2-3pm more games- duck duck goose, dessert/(fruit served)(cake) and raffle I know when I first started the Children's Apraxia Network in August of 1999 we coordinated through early 2000 with The Friends Health Connection http://www.48friend.org -a nonprofit that works with hospitals all over that I first met in my work through Shopinservice. The Friends Health Connection (1800-48 FRIEND) is awesome in bringing people with similar challenges together for support and friendship and they organized boat trips and plays, etc. as well as some of the most awesome speakers. Most of the time however, as many people that came to our support meetings - the only people that went to the outings were my friends and family so we stopped planning the outings with the group (not with friends and family which is a given) I just checked and the Friends Health Connection is not offering any outings right now either. I'm sure if there was interest on our part we could work out something there again. (The Friends group is a nonprofit you may want to check out anyway -I always try to work with nonprofits like them who are inviting to all) It's lots of work to organize for a group. The Friends Health Connection would look to book up a boat -or it would be lunch and a play for the family, etc. and that they would bring all kinds of goodies for everyone -and I noticed there would be lots of left overs (meaning that people didn't show up) I once saw a billboard for teeth that sums up support groups and the activities that volunteers like Jeannie or I plan (including booking probono speakers, etc.) or that funded nonprofits like Friends Health Connection plan " Ignore them and they'll go away " You guys that know me -know me. I love booking all kinds of activities for us - which I love to do when people fly in for TV stuff. Based on past history -we just didn't know there would be interest -hope there is!! Looking forward to seeing you Janet, and everyone else that goes to the outing that Jeannie's planning! =====
