Good morning Ellie,

I hope you don't mind me jumping in here, but I do have experience with this

very thing and thought I could answer your questions.

If you buy your raw milk from a state permitted dairy, you can be sure all the

milk cows are tested anually for Brucellosis, and Tubuerculosis. We had to test

all our cows before we could get our permit and every year thereafter. So the

risk of getting brucellosis from a permitted dairy is vertually nill. And Jim's

right, even from a non-permitted dairy you shouldn't have anything to worry

about because brucellosis and TB have been almost eradicated. Only some of the

wild ruminants like buffalo, elk, etc. still have some brucellosis.

Steps are even being taken to clear it up in the wild animals as well. If they

can succeed in eliminating it in the wild, US will basiclly be considered

Brucellosis free.

If you still have qualms about it, know the farm you get the milk from. If you

live at a distance and buy it off-farm, then visit the farm at least once so you

can see for yourself how they opperate.

BTW, dairies permitted to sell raw milk have to do MUCH more testing than just

for TB and Brucellosis. We need to test for pathogens all the time. Actually the

quallity standards for raw milk (in PA) are five times higher than the standards

for milk that is being sent to be pasteurized.

Great Brewing! (and raw milk drinking)

PS. on change.org " legalize milk " is fifth from the top out of all 4,977 ideas

in America... AMAZING.... it was only started on the 19th!

We don't expect that it will change anthing, but it will at least show the

beurocrats that there's alot of people out there who care, and should give them

pause.

RE: vote for raw milk at change.org!

Jim, thank you for the info. i just wanted to clarify a few things: How can

one know if the cows have been properly tested? Is there some kind of

certificate that we, consumers, could ask the farmer for? Also, how to know if

the animals are pasture raised aside from what the farmer tells us?

Millions of thanks,

ellie
