Guest guest
Liz, Yes a titer test requires a small amount of blood....neither of my kids had a problem with it. It was taken from a finger. They were both immune after the first booster so no more worries here :-) I decided to put do the MMR as separate shots for my third child who is now 2. She's had the measles portion so far. I've done her shots one at a time, spacing each out by 3 months so I could observe her. She is my third and ONLY child to NOT have developmental delays or autism. I am being very cautious with her. She is home with me and not in daycare so I don't think her risks are very high at this point. In our situation, our family already is that one in a million so we go from there in basing our decisions on immunizations. Our pediatrician doesn't always agree with me but she does respect my decisions and helps me decide which immunizations are the most important and we work our way down the list. Tammy ----- Original Message ----- I will definitely ask my pediatrician this, but as long as I am logged on.....so, instead of the pre-K MMR booster, I can ask for a titer\tider (sp?) which will say whether or not my son is already immune to these 3 diseases, therefore rendering the booster unnecessary? I have a Lab requisition form in front of me and I see a test called 'Rubeola (Immune Status)'...so I guess it would be something like that? Just curious, cause a shot would be easier (meaning right in the Dr's office) but if I could avoid poisoning my child...I'll take him to a lab. I am taking his brother to have his blood tested for mercury and lead, anyway (hence the form). One more question...is a titer a shot or do they draw blood for it?? Thanks..for everyone's help with this. I started this current set of vaccine posts because Wesley is about to turn 5 and needs his pre-K boosters. I have found ALL of your posts very helpful.
