Guest guest
I will definitely ask my pediatrician this, but as long as I am logged on.....so, instead of the pre-K MMR booster, I can ask for a titer\tider (sp?) which will say whether or not my son is already immune to these 3 diseases, therefore rendering the booster unnecessary? I have a Lab requisition form in front of me and I see a test called 'Rubeola (Immune Status)'...so I guess it would be something like that? Just curious, cause a shot would be easier (meaning right in the Dr's office) but if I could avoid poisoning my child...I'll take him to a lab. I am taking his brother to have his blood tested for mercury and lead, anyway (hence the form). One more question...is a titer a shot or do they draw blood for it?? Thanks..for everyone's help with this. I started this current set of vaccine posts because Wesley is about to turn 5 and needs his pre-K boosters. I have found ALL of your posts very helpful. Guest guest
Hi , The titre is a test not a shot. 90% of children receive immnuity from their first MMR and don't need the second one . They give it to everyone because it is cheaper and simpler than testing everyone and then calling back those who have not received immunity the first time .....which dosen't actually make sense because there may be some reason why a child did not get immunity the first time which may also prevent the injection working the secondtime - so everyone has two shots with still no guarentee that you have achieved 100% immunity - still it's cheaper !!!!! Anyway the titre test will tell you if your kid is in the 90% and has no need for a second shot or in the 10 % .... in which case it may be better for them to have the generally more effective single jab anyway . Hope that makes sense Regards Deborah > I will definitely ask my pediatrician this, but as long as I am logged on.....so, instead of the pre-K MMR booster, I can ask for a titer\tider (sp?) which will say whether or not my son is already immune to these 3 diseases, therefore rendering the booster unnecessary? > > I have a Lab requisition form in front of me and I see a test called 'Rubeola (Immune Status)'...so I guess it would be something like that? > > Just curious, cause a shot would be easier (meaning right in the Dr's office) but if I could avoid poisoning my child...I'll take him to a lab.
