Hi ,

I have two children who were delayed in toilet training due to their

hypotontia/dyspraxia learning difficulties. I managed to

achieve and 3.5 years through buying a teddy style potty which was

like a chair therefore she got back support (at this stage we weren't

aware of her problems as such) I also used a sticker chart as she

could understand this and really loves stickers so she could put them

on her chart when she 'performed' in her potty. is now 7, but

still needs 'pull ups' at night as she has a phobia about bowel

movements on the toilet and tends to go in her sleep!!! we

only managed to achieve last summer when he was 5, and through our OT

here in the UK managed to get a large 'potty'which has back support,

so it could still be in a room close to him so he didn't have

to 'ask' to go, he could just

go. He on occasion has accidents, and if his stressed may regress

for a while, but at home he tends to be OK, it's when he is at school

he tends to have a few problems, but they are very understanding

about this and he has wonderful support and we are hoping that in

time he will be able to achieve asking and making it to the toilet

all the time.

I hope this is of some help, it's just what worked for me. I never

got stressed about their toilet training as I felt that they would

develop their skills in their own time, and as they had so many other

problems to cope with, I felt if they were way behind developmentally

in everything else, then it makes sense to me that they would be way

behind in the toilet training too.

Good luck

Regards
