Guest guest
Hi , If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend looking into Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy. There's tons of information available on the internet...you can begin by going to www. and searching. A common misconception is that ABA is a set of discrete trials used to teach a child new information or tasks. While trials are part of ABA, it can also include natural environment teaching and tools such as reinforcement, prompting, shaping behavior, and much more. When there are experienced and skilled therapists providing ABA therpay, it can really make a huge difference in a child's development and behavior...I know it has for my son. I'm not saying this is the only therapy out there for autistic children. I've tried and continue to provide some other complementary therapies...this is just what has really worked for us. You can email me at dinapressel@... anytime. Dina > Hi--I have an IEP meeting in 2 weeks and have a question. My has verbal and motor apraxia and possibly autism. Lately his self stimulating behaviors have greatly increased. (He claps his hands in a circular motion around his face.) I feel like he is in his own little world when he does this. I just want to grab him and make him stop but then he gets angry. His preschool teacher also mentioned to me that it has become more freqent esp. during free time or unstructured time. My question is this: Is their therapy for this and if so what kind of therapist can help us with the behavior aspects of this? Will the school system be able to provide this? Thanks > Zwick
