Guest guest
Hope someone out there can help. My son Lenny is 3 1/2 and apraxic. We (my immediate family) are thrilled with his progress this year. We can understand him (in context) almost 90% of the time. The last 2 days the weather here in New York has been wonderful. We have been out on our block and at the park. Lenny has been playing with all the children and has been very outgoing. He is even initiating conversation (something he would have never attempted last year). Here is the problem -- none of the children understand him at all. They are all very nice and are not teasing him but all I keep hearing is -- " what did you say Lenny? " -- " Lenny I can't understand you " -- " Nicky, what is your brother saying? " . I am not sure how involved I should get. Should I hang back and let him try to get his point across? Should I let his older brother, Nick, speak for him? Should I interpet? So far, Lenny does not seem to mind but I am afraid of what this will do to his self-esteem. Please help!! Thanks. Lynaugh
