Guest guest
, Dick S. here, I am a cub scout leader. I share your enthusiasm for youth and think that whatever we can do to help them is great. In addition to CMT I have sleep apnea and require a CPAP at night(needs electricity). I have explained my situation to the other leaders and they understand. I get lighter duties around the campsite area, driving duties etc. I am sure that if you explain they would rather have you as you are then not have you at all. Good luck

Guest guest
, I was not a leader but I did a lot of volunteer work in my girls troops as a parent. AT the beginning of every year I told the leaders I could help out in any way EXCEPT for the camping trips. I could not SAFELY assist with those. Girl scouts are big on the safety issues. Leaders facilitate a troop - they do not have to run EVERYTHING. There are other parents that can volunteer for duties, like going on the camping trips. In our troops, every leader did not go on every outing. One leader had a newborn so was often not present at the outings. That's why you have more than one leader - to share responsibilities throughout the year. You have our support on this issue. Ruth > I am a brownie leader. I really like doing this job. Guest guest
I agree, , that you should discuss it with the leader(s) privately so they know you are willing and able, within your limitations. And if the venture is outside your limitations, you may not be able to do it. I know in my past when I didn't communicate my limitations ('cause it's not always obvious - I didn't have crutches, etc) it was presumed that I wasn't a team player, which wasn't true at all. I think I was embarrassed to explain my problems, appear weak, all that...I was raised that way. I'm way over that now! I bet they would too. If you're like me, you don't like to have to explain to people why you can't do this and that. I never have explained until now, since I'm getting worse, I feel I have to tell them. You don't have to go in detail about it, just tell them you aren't strong due to a nerve/muscle disease and you don't feel that you can do some of the things and be comfortable with it. What ever you do, good luck. Years ago, when we were young married couple, my husbands family treated me terrible because I had headaches and backaches really bad and didn't feel like doing a lot of things. It hurt me but I ignored most of it. Back then, I didn't even know what was wrong with me. I knew there was something, but had no idea what it was or that I would feel this bad at my age now. Guest guest
Just by being there should be enough for them as you are another pair of eyes and ears so if they cant see the value they have in you tell them thier lucky just to have your company and your precious time. Guest guest
Hello everyone, I 'm still new here, I introduced myself a couple of days ago... but I figured people here would understand my frustration. I was calling my lung transplant coordinator (for a different condition) to let her know about the new dx of RA. She immediately asked if they had checked that out during all my other testing last year for my lung condition. I told her I thought they had, and that, although I'm not that far above normal, my doctor wants to start treatment to keep it low. She finally found the results and they were above normal, too!! No one thought it important to mention this to me last year.... it wasn't high enough results, she said!! I went through knee surgery for NO reason, I now realize. Had I known it was a little high, I would have gone straight to the rheumy vs going to my orthopedic guy first!!! UGH!! I'm so angry and frustrated that they decided what they needed or didn't need to tell me! Robin
