Guest guest
Hi MArina, We took our son Jack to a developmental pediatrician, the first time when he was 28 months and then again at 33 months, she is great and will follow him until he is 21. I say go. you can never have enough info and poo-poo everyone who says your going overboard. If I had listened to people when JAck was 15 months I never would be here today, and boy we have been to them all. In 18 months Jack has had 5 evals. That got us always closer to the diagnosis and proper treatment that has truly helped our son. Trust your instincts they are almost always correct. I use the " Pro-efa " from nordic naturals I just called them and they send me 1 bottle a month automatically and I get a 15% discount for doing that. It is a large pill that looks like a big vitamin E capsule. I pierce it with a needle and squirt it into Jack's juice, applesause yogurt what ever, usually juice and I give him 2 a day but started out with 1 and saw results at 2 weeks but major ones about 4 weeks after starting them. I am so pleased with the results that I also give it to my other son who is 17 months. Good luck, Eileen mom to JAck 3 this month and --- marina3029 <philipmary@...> wrote: > I want to order the ProEFA from Nordic Naturals but > am unclear which > one I should be getting - is it liquid form or a > chewable? Guest guest
Hi Eileen, What is the difference between a pediatrician and a developmental pediatrician? Also, how much does a bottle of ProEFA cost? Thanks, Marissa
Guest guest
Going to a dev ped was the best move we ever made. When my child turned three I no longer had services covered by the state. I was lobbying the school district for " appropriate services " for my child. I was trying to get insurance approval for private therapy. I was trying to get private OT covered. Our developmental ped was wonderful about writing letters for insurance, school services, you name it. Plus she referred us to a pediatric neurologist who has also bee wonderful with writing letters also. You will quickly learn that what the doctors say holds a lot of weight. Tricia Morin Mom to 3 1/2 (apraxia of speech, limb apraxia, sensory issues) Illinois [ ] New here...with questions! Hello all - glad to have found you! I am mom to 2 sons - Zachariah will be 4 in July and has been diagnosed with apraxia of speech, Riley is 2.5 and only has about 15 words (but lots of phonemes!?!). Zach was diagnosed officially about 1 year ago, but I knew before we took him in for the evaluation what it was from lots of research. He's very classically verbally apraxic - no babbling, " Da " for everything, etc.. He now has made FABULOUS progress (thanks to his new SLP) and speaks in sentences. He still flips consonants around, but if he could get a handle on S,L,F & Z he'd be 90% intelligible. I'm really proud of him. My younger son has not been evaluated yet. He wouldn't cooperate and, after discussing it with my ped (who's great), we decided to hold off. He's been adding lots of words the past 2 weeks and been generally more responsive. So - here are my questions. I'm sure you've heard them a million times... I want to order the ProEFA from Nordic Naturals but am unclear which one I should be getting - is it liquid form or a chewable? What's the dosage info (Z is over 40# and Riley's over 33#)? How many of you have been to see Developmental Pediatricians? After a long talk with my ped, he referred me to a developmental ped (at our local Children's Hospital - where our SLP is) for an evaluation. I was wondering if any of you wanted to share your experiences so I could better understand what to expect...My husband (and both our families) think I'm going a bit overboard since he IS talking now...You understand, I'm sure...If I hear - " He'll talk when he's ready " I'm going to scream! Thanks for any and all input! Marina
Guest guest
Welcome to the group! I would recommend the Developmental Pediatrician. Dr. Marilyn Agin disagnosed my son. In July of this year, the Board of Education denied my son of all services and told us to come back to be reevaluated in 6 months. They found him to just have an expressive delay. But because his receptive language was so high, they denied him services. In August (just 3 weeks later), after Dr. Agin's diagnosis, he was placed in an intergrated nursery school 5 days per week with speech 3x a week and OT 2 x a week. Thank God for Dr. Agin (and the CHERUB Foundation). Lynaugh p.s. - my 3 1/2 year old apraxic son takes 2 ProEFAs a day and my 22 month old with expressive language delay takes one per day. Guest guest
Hi Eileen, Do you have the phone number of Nordic Naturals so I can order some EFAs? Thanks.
Guest guest
Someone posted the number earlier - sorry I don't have time right now to go back and find it, but look at the earlier replies to my original request. If I get more time (and mobility as I've got a 2 year old crawling on me) I'll go back for you. Originally, I just went to their site and investigated it there. I believe they have a number on the website. > Hi Eileen, > > Do you have the phone number of Nordic Naturals so I can order some EFAs? > Thanks.
