Guest guest
Hi everyone! The executive producer for the TV documentary that is being filmed this Saturday the 20th (that will air this Fall) decided to go with older children who have extensive history from school, and other professionals to lower the chance that viewers will believe that the children had coincidental normal developmental surges-or that the positive surges were from other therapies, etc. (which is why it's good to do things one at a time anyway even if it's not for TV -so you will know what's working) To lower the odds of people believing that it's just a coincidence, the children they selected all have amazing stories. One of the children is Mauri Blefeld's nine year old son Ari who wasn't supplemented with EFAs until just a few months ago and was using an augmentative device and was essentially nonverbal in spite of years of therapies, etc. prior to taking ProEFA. Since Ari is now speaking for the first time and up to two word sentences, for the first time ever this school year, his public school administrators view Ari as being able to be schooled in district -and view him as a " different " child " !! The before and after is a great idea -however since apraxia is not the only focus of this one particular TV documentary -they may not have enough time to cover it to do it justice. For those whose children were selected for the before and after however -if you are willing to wait a bit longer there is still interest from the media. I just was contacted yesterday by a new producer who is interested in doing a documentary on just apraxia, and is interested in including documenting the before and after of apraxic children on ProEFA. Since this producer is working under an NIH grant -the children would need to have the diagnosis of apraxia. I plan on meeting this producer in NY sometime next week -and will give you more details. For those of you interested in being interviewed as parents -the new producer is planning on attending the (free) Kaufman CHERAB meeting which will be held at the Atlantic City Convention Center on May 2nd (thanks to the New Jersey Speech Hearing Association) All information is at http://www.apraxia.cc under " upcoming events " Anyone who runs a support group for communication help is invited to join us in taking out to dinner at 5:00 PM before the meeting. The producer will be there with us to interview us and . ('s info at http://www.kidspeech.com ) Mauri Blefeld (mentioned above who will be filmed this Saturday for the one TV documentary) and who runs the Children's Apraxia Network of PA -which is not as far as the rest of the groups from the AC Convention Center -is coordinating which restaurant we will all be at -so we will let you know if we can also work out a special price for anyone else who would like to join us in the restaurant before the meeting. Mauri's email is njblefeld@... (njblefeld at aol.com) if you would like to RSVP for dinner or the meeting. on dmharrison98@... (dmharrison98 at ) and Jeannie Buesser Jbmistletoe@... (Jbmistletoe at aol.com) are coordinating with Mauri njblefeld@... (njblefeld at aol.com) so you can email them as well. If you would like to go to the restaurant with us with Kaufman, or you would like to attend the (free) Kaufman CHERAB meeting, please let us know as soon as possible since those that attend the NJSHA Kaufman all day workshop will be notified of the CHERAB meeting and we can only hold spots for those who take the moment to RSVP to njblefeld@... (njblefeld at aol.com) or one of the other above email address. Being that this meeting may also now be filmed for a TV documentary -we want to make everyone aware of that (so you can be prepared!) Cheryl MA SLS Educational Consultant will be on hand at the Children's Specialized Hospital for the Family Fun Day this Saturday the 20th (thanks Cheryl) while some others from CHERAB are being filmed for the one documentary. (Hope this isn't too confusing with two different documentaries going on now at once!) Hey something is wrong with this list again so if you don't see a message you sent -please resend. =====
