Guest guest
, Thank you for posting the sites. I am going to look into Auditory integration therapy for Jack. I am wondering though how I would go about getting this kind of therapy, is it from a ot, slp, private, or public. Jack turns 3 in May so where do I go, what do I do? I just know this could help Jack with some behavoiral sensory issues, which could increase his speech. I can't believe that I am so out of the loop on this stuff. I just found out that JAck may have this auditory issue. I am really excited to actually have a wonderful explaination that I can acually understand, yipee!!! Thanks, Eileen > > Still researching this myself. Here is a previous > post from the > archives re: AIT. > > /message/6066 > > This is amazing! Guest guest
Hi all, You all seem to be using different verbage to describe APD (auditory processing disorder), AIT (auditory integration therapy) is a relatively new and promising technique. My daughter is actually scheduled to start this summer when school gets out. She is 7yrs. old. and dx autistic (high functioning) You have basically 2 camps, The Berard and the Tomatis. Tomatis started exploring this area first, (his clients were opera singers and others, I forget. Berard was assisting him from practically the beginning, but quickly grew disillusioned with what he felt was the excessive cost, time, intrusiveness and emphasis upon hypothetical psychological factors of the Tomatis approach. I highly recommend the first link, as I feel Dr. Bernard Rimland at he " Autism Research Institute " is very well read, researched, has the largest world-renowned database on autistic theories, results, etc... and is a father of an autistic child. http://www.autism.com/ari/aitsummary.html http://www.aitresources.com/articles.htm http://216.218.233.179/ NCAPD National Coalition of Auditory Processing Disorders http://www.thedaviscenter.com/DCtheDC.htm On one of the Center pages they mention a dozen other techniques, just be cautious. Something you can do at home on the computer is go to http://www.brainconnection.com/teasers/ By watching your child do or try to do these exercises, it might help you better put into words what you see as difficult for your child when the therapist asks you. What does he have difficulty with? [ ] Re: auditory Processing? , Thank you for posting the sites. I am going to look into Auditory integration therapy for Jack.
