What is PROMPT? (Prompt Institute Description)

" PROMPT, is a multidimensional, multi-sensory therapeutic system that

is holistic and dynamic. PROMPT has often been recognized singularly

for its use of tactile- kinesthetic articulatory prompts cues) on the

jaw, face and under the chin, that help to develop or restructure

speech production output. In reality, PROMPT is about the dynamic

way a child is viewed and treated. Depending on the nature of the

delay or disorder this perspective may derive from normal child

acquisition models of development or from models that stress

maximizing the child's potential in spite of disordered or damaged

systems.

At first, the technique of prompting was recognized as " prompts for

restructuring oral-muscular phonetic targets: PROMPT " and predictably

focused on the " end product " (sounds) of speech production or, as

PROMPT now refers to it, the " motor-phoneme " . However, it soon became

apparent that PROMPT was much more involved and relied on a totally

different conceptual basis than has been traditionally taught, for

organizing and integrating information in the development of

assessment and intervention strategies for speech and language. "

>Can someone tell me what PROMPT certified therapy is? (it has been

>referred to a few times) I am new to this group and apraxia...

>Thanks in advance for your help!
