Guest guest
My wife was prescribed an anti-depressant for the pain of shingles. The shingles are gone now, but the other pains are enough that the doc wants her to still take them. It's a low dose but it does help her. I've gone off them completely and can't tell the difference. Same pain, well, more pain, and still can't sleep. Dennis [ ] anti depressants >I think everybody is different and, just like for our RA, some meds are > better than others. Guest guest
My rheumy first prescibed Celexa to counter the effects of prednisone, then later upped the amount. Recently, he added Trazadone for pain relief and as a sleeping aid. I do get sleepy shortly after I take it! Both are anti-depressants, and have helped me a lot. Guest guest
Yes, Bonnie, anti-depressants are used for pain relief. They do something to your serotonin levels, which helps with pain. Both my Celexa and my Trazodone are anti-depressants. Guest guest
From drugs. com: What is trazodone? • Trazodone is an antidepressant medication. It works by changing the actions of chemicals in the brain. • Trazodone is used to relieve symptoms of depression such as feelings of sadness, worthlessness, or guilt; loss of interest in daily activities; changes in appetite; tiredness; sleeping too much; insomnia; and thoughts of death or suicide. Guest guest
Hi: I started out on Effexor XR about two-three years into my RA treatment for depression, and am still on it, and my doctor says it is effective for treatment of fibromyalgia too, so has kept me on it. I take 75mg daily. Some anti-depressants are also used for sleep medication. There seem to be quite a few meds that have started out treatment for one thing, and then cross over at some point for treatment of other problems.
