Guest guest
Hi everyone, I was so pleased to find a group out there for children's apraxia! Let me give you a little background: Our son was born 3 1/2 months early due to my severe preeclampsia luckily had a brilliant NICU recovery. No major problems...or so we thought when we came home...all of the head ultrasounds were clear and everything looked fine. At about 8 months we noticed that was regressing and scheduled him for an MRI, before our appointment came he had his first seizure. We battled the seizures with heavy medications that would really do a number on him. After one year we came completely off of all meds when his EEG came back normal. Now our son, almost 3, is learning much faster...but not nearly at a normal pace. Everything seems to be advancing albeit slowly, except for his speech. He cycles through 2 words for everything " Ba Ba " and " Ma Ma " . He has started gesturing (yet still does not shake his head yes or no) and has a very good receptive vocabulary. Other quirky habits include...wanting to chew on EVERYTHING (except food) and sensitivity around his face and mouth. We are trying to address these problems but I have little faith in my " new " therapist. We've been unlucky quite a few times with therapists moving away. Anyway, I asked her about the PECS system, I hope I'm spelling this right, (do you guys know what I'm talking about?) and she didn't know what it stood for but she had heard about it....that scared me...of all people she should know! Anyway...I was wanting to know a little about what your therapy includes and some of your individual stories....We were diagnosed a week ago with speech and limb apraxia and I was searching for a little reassurance. Thanks so much! Mommy to 26 weeker, now 2 1/
Guest guest
and , Have either of you investigated Landau-Kleffner Syndrome? My son will be getting an E.E.G. soon to check for it although why, I am unsure. He never had language then lost it as is common with this. Check it out on the net and best wishes. > Hi , > I was wondering what you meant when you said > started regressing. The reason I ask is my daughter > was also a preemie (34 weeks) and her language > regressed at 18 mos. > >
