Guest guest
Debra, What great news! I think it may almost be that he forgets he can use his words. I know with little ones people will say " use your words " . I think when our kids get to this stage they are usually older and maybe they too need to be reminded. Of course I don't recommend withholding if a child cannot say it because remember sometimes apraxic kids cannot talk on command. It sounds like your son is progreessing nicely so hang in there and keep encouraging him. Pretty soon he will use his words and you will wonder where that quiet child is!! --- In @y..., " lollipop11230 " <ltathome80@a...> wrote: > Hi, my son is now on his second bottle of pro efa and his behavior > has gotten better and he cooperates with the speech therapists much > more.My question is, he can now say many sounds and word > approximations on command but, has hardly no spontaneous speech at > all. Guest guest
Hi Debra - Your son sounds a lot like mine when he first started to talk. He would always first revert to saying " uh " or screaming and pointing and I feel that it was because for so long, this was all he could do. It was also easier then words because they have to work so hard at words and screaming just comes out naturally. I just continued to encourage him to " use his words " very gently in case the words wouldn't come at that moment and eventually he realized that words were more specific and useful to him. It just took some time. Think of how many hundreds (or thousands) of items he knows the words to in his head but doesn't know how to say them yet. It's a lot easier to just scream and point but the talking will come. As with everything with our Apraxic children, have patience and time will reward you. Good luck! in NJ KDR@... mom to (4) and (6) -----Original Message----- > Hi, my son is now on his second bottle of pro efa and his behavior > has gotten better and he cooperates with the speech therapists much > more.My question is, he can now say many sounds and word > approximations on command but, has hardly no spontaneous speech at > all.
