Guest guest
I don't know if it's 'common', but it certainly is possible. It's not necessarily that you don't have inflammation, but you may not have the visible swelling and tenderness that often comes with inflammation. I had a lot of swelling in the early days (5+ years ago), but it quickly came under control with Methotrexate. However, I've had pain consistently over the past 5 years. Fortunately my doctor really listens and believes me when I describe the amount and placement of the pain, since there's no visible swelling, and when he examines the joints they aren't tender to the touch. Also, you should be aware that although the results of the blood test for sed rate is a typical measure of inflammation, it's not 100% accurate. You can have lots of inflammation and pain and have test results for sed rate within the normal limits. It's all part of the challenges or diagnosing and treating RA! Guest guest
think so, as don't always have "evidence of inflamation on the surface" but a lot of pain when i move certain joints or mucles. i bent over for a while emptying the dishwasher, went in to see something on the tv, just standing there looking and the latissimus dorsi muscle in my left back went into a spasm and seemed to knot up and i couldn't move or breath without bad bad bad, paralyzing pain. couldn;t tell anything to look at it, but it was pretty hard, and now abt 10 hrs later still very painful upon moving the wrong way. acts like plueresy but think just another of those 'ritis' boys!!! love.. granny lee ----- Original Message ----- From: jsala Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, December 19, 2003 9:03 PM Subject: Inflamation and pain Is it common to have pain with no inflamation in RA?
