Guest guest
Hi hope everyone is doing well. Haven't posted or been to a meeting for a while. Anyway, I have a question regarding summer services. I have this gut feeling that this will be a very difficult summer regarding a program for my son. In years past he was placed into the summer handicapped program in my district. Aside from apraxia he is also hearing impaired and believe or not, there is NO summer program for the DEAF/HH in New Jersey!! Therefore he is in with children with a wide range of issues. I believe he has aged out of this program. My question is: How do I get the " appropriate services " for my son during the summer. He must continue with speech & OT. Has anyone had these services done in the home or at a private facility without a battle? Thanks in advance. Hope to see most of you at the next meeting! Guest guest
Terry, The summer extended year program at most districts is a skeleton crew. It is not as structured as the school year and if you usually get 1:1 or small group therapy, ESY will provide group therapy only. It was more beneficial for my child to get private therapy. Guest guest
Hi Joanne We are getting 1:1 with a speech pathologist, but it is one we have had in the past, and my son didn't get along well with her. We are going to give it a try but we have already doubled our private SP for the summer. Thanks Terry Joanne Mulholland <mulholland34@...> wrote: Terry, The summer extended year program at most districts is a skeleton crew.
