Guest guest
Hi, Does anyone have any idea on what the timeframe that evaluations can be provided BEFORE an IEP meeting? I want the evaluation results prior to the meeting to get an idea of what I should be looking for. Thanks. denise Mom to 3.8 verbal apraxia
Guest guest
, I looking in my PRISE booklet (just got a new one because we revised 's IEP) and there isn't a timeframe listed. However, I remember Stacey Greenwald (?) saying at a Cherab meeting that it was a parent's right to receive copies of the evaluations PRIOR to the IEP meeting. This is in opposition to what my district told me during the first IEP process. Stick to your guns! Guest guest
Hi Carol, thanks so much for taking the time to post..... After today's conversation with the coordinator, I at least have SOME hope. I brought several points to her attention, and she absolutely admitted that she knew little or NOTHING of apraxia, and said she truly didn't have a child presented to her with that dx. I told her I'd forward her enough information so she knew what Jordan had, and had a better idea of why I left that meeting so horribly disappointed. We'll see what the next month brings. I am excited about the preschool. My daughter <a typical child> went to that preschool.....10 years ago.....the assistant director is the same, and in fact when the coordinator called to give them Jordan's information, she remarked how they all remembered me and my children, especially how bright my oldest was. They told her they were so excited to have me back as " part of their family. " Made me feel good to know that Jordan will have the same wonderful memories that had. This preschool is on a gorgeous farm here in Ivyland, PA. Animals are everywhere.....it's just a wonderful place. I know he will thrive there, as he's a huge animal fan, as we all are in this family. I'm gathering some very poignant information regarding the CORRECT treatment of apraxia, and intend to forward that to the IU coordinator. I think at this point she's curious, if nothing else, and will read what I'm going to send (if anyone has anything that they feel is relevant here, please forward, I'd love to have it.) So in a sense, it's now just a waiting game....... Thanks again for caring..... ~Karyn [ ] IEP meeting Karyn! I am so sad to hear about the iep meeting going THAT badly! Especially when you had already gone to so much work to be so prepared and have everything logically ready. This is truly how I felt the year our school hired a new OT who told me " kids like him don't get this much therapy " and then proceeded to break the law and not give him the therapy that had been written into the iep the year before. It was a nightmare year. I waited and tried to work things out with the team for half the year and then complained to the State DOE and after NINE MONTHS they finally got back to me and finally admitted that I was right but that the school told them it was a clerical error and since it was a new school year it was a moot point anyway, so have a great new school year! Unless you have money or can use a media source, there IS NO POINT IN GOING ON ABOUT IT. This crew sounds very much like my crew. I am glad, as you say, he got a better preschool placement....what about the therapy though? will any of it be appropriate? Carol
