From Ray Gallups speech in DC this last week on Autism

also gives us the recent updates on how many new

cases of autism for each state annually.

The following is the speech I gave on Sunday, April 21st:

Our son, , was born a normal healthy baby on January 17, 1985. In

April 1986, received the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine and

regressed in language, behavior and social skills and was diagnosed in

early 1989 as autistic. Before the MMR vaccine, our son's speech was

developing. We have the videotapes that document this. After the MMR

vaccine, nothing.

We document the autism epidemic on our Autism Autoimmunity Project web

site under the title, " The United States Autism Epidemic: Our Bitter

Harvest. " There are figures that we use from the US Department of

Education that uses the same diagnostic criterion for autism from 1991

to the present. These figures show a dramatic increase of autism across

the U.S. Also, there is an article by Alan Rees, a parent in Sweden,

that is titled " 6 Million to Search for Autism Genes 'A Waste' " . Alan

Rees mentions the recent article on the FEAT newsletter titled " UCLA

Neurologist Awarded $6 Million to Search for Autism Genes. " Mr. Rees

states the following:

" This award of 6 million dollars is a total waste of money. Autism has

increased tenfold in ten years. It cannot possibly be genetic in

origin. "

Also, Alan Rees includes a statement by Bengt Olle Bengtsson, Professor

of Genetics at the University of Lund in Sweden. Professor Bengtsson

said the following:

" Can a disease that rapidly increases in frequency be genetically

determined? The basic answer to this question is no. "

In a letter I wrote to the medical journal, The Lancet, that was

published in July 2000 titled " The MMR Question " in the Correspondence

section, I cited the dramatic increase of autism in California as well

as in east Surrey, UK where one in 69 children aged 3 years old are

autistic. Also, I cited that 's school for autism had 20 pupils in

1992, now there are over 100. I'm sure that any parent could find the

same information available at their child's school and that they have

witnessed similar dramatic increases of autism. These are real children

with a real biomedical disorder.

There has never been and there will never be a genetic epidemic. This

autism epidemic is due to an immune insult.

Then why is the National Institutes of Health concentrating all their

funding on genetics and nothing on immunology research? Is it to help

the Genome Project rather than find an answer for our children?

Part of the answer is that the Federal health agencies like the National

Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)and the

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)are more interested in promoting and

regulating vaccines then to find an answer for our children. In other

words, the welfare of our children come last and profits for a product

like vaccines come first. Congressman Dan Burton's committee on

Government reform found many instances of many Federal government health

agency officials taking money from or owning stock of vaccine companies.

This while they were sitting on government health agency review boards

making decisions on vaccines.

Here are a few examples:

The following testimony from Betty D. Fluck on May 18, 1999 at a

Government Reform Subcommittee hearing:

" I have the minutes from a Center for Disease Control Study Group

meeting on the hepatitis B vaccine held in March 1997. It should be

noted that the afternoon session of this meeting was chaired by Dr.

Sharrar of Merck. "

In the Scotland on Sunday newspaper article on September 30, 2001, the

following was mentioned:

" Professor Elliman, whose study said fears of a link between the

MMR vaccine and autism were unfounded, admitted that he and Dr. Helen

Bedford had been given money by the drug giants Kline Beecham and

Pasteur Merieux Merck Sharp & Dohme. "

The list goes on of conflict of interest between vaccine companies and

the government health officials and medical community.

I started the Autism Autoimmunity Project in 1998, because the NIH would

not fund immunology research into autism. We have raised over

$111,000.00 in funding for the research of Dr. Vijendra Singh, Dr.

Wakefield and Dr. Oleske. Dr. Oleske and Dr. Singh have

found elevated measles antibody titers in most of the children with

autism that they tested. Dr. Wakefield has found measles in the gut of

the children with autism that he tested. The people in the US and UK

medical communities and government health agencies deny there is a link

between the MMR vaccine and autism. To date, they say they have provided

the science to prove their point. It is like the fox guarding the

chicken coop.

The fact is that these people have not provided any conclusive clinical

science to prove their point that there is no link between the MMR

vaccine and autism.

Instead of giving us glib opinion reports on the MMR vaccine link to

autism, our government health agencies should come up with clinical

science to explain this and correct it with treatment modalities. Such

immune modality treatment as intravenous gamma globulin has made one

child in California and one child in New York normal. Our government

could be helping our children and preventing more children from becoming

autistic by doing immunology research and treatments. It would be far

more constructive than looking for unknown genes that will not develop

into treatments for our children and not end the autism epidemic.

There has been no independent, long-term safety studies done on any of

the vaccines including the MMR vaccine. At a recent meeting in New York,

a parent asked me knowing what I know about my son, would I recommend

that parents should vaccinate their children. I said no. I wouldn't

recommend it because our son was affected adversely by the MMR vaccine

and read too much about the ingedients of various vaccines to feel that

they are unsafe.

We are basically playing Russian Roulette with our children because the

US government health agencies have not done proper safety studies on all

of the vaccines and are more in the business of promoting and regulating

vaccines than to be concerned about their safety. While our organization

is funding research into the MMR vaccine and autism, our members and

myself believe that autism is more than the MMR vaccine and thimerosal

in the vaccines. We believe that other vaccines such as the DPT,

hepatitis B and polio vaccines as well as multiple vaccines given on one

day can cause autism. In a VAERS report on adverse reactions caused by

vaccines kept by the Federal government, one doctor in California

mentioned that one child was autistic after getting the oral polio

vaccine, DPT and MMR vaccines in one day and that he knew of ten other

cases. In 's school, two parents noted that their children developed

diabetes after getting the hepatitis B vaccine. This was on top of them

also having autism.

In the Yomiuri Shimbun, a newspaper in Japan dated April 17, 2002, there

was an article titled " Government releases data on MMR side effects. " It

says the following:

" The central government has released documents on the controversial

measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine after a group of plaintiffs

invoked a new public information disclosure law. The group intends to

produce the documents, which also allegedly expose a government cover-up

of the data to delay banning the vaccine, as evidence in a suit that

claims the vaccine caused the deaths of their children. "

In the UK, more than 2,000 families are currently involved in a class

action lawsuit against the Department of health due to adverse reactions

suffered by their children during the UK's MMR vaccination campaign.

These adverse reactions include autism, bowel problems, epilepsy, brain

damage, meningitis, cerebral palsy, encephalopathy, encephalitis,

deafness in one or both ears, Multiple Sclerosis, panencephalitis and

behavioral and learning problems in older children. In the US, the

Vaccine Injury Alliance is made up of the law firms of Hitt, ,

Sell, , Shoemaker & Horn, Conway, Homer & Chin-Chaplan

and Blizzard & McCarthy. Conway of Conway, Homer & Chin-Chaplan

was depicted by Tony Shalhoub in the movie, A Civil Action starring

Travolta and the book, A Civil action.

In a most recent article by Thrower, parent, titled " MMR and

Acquired Autism (Autistic Enterocolitis) A Briefing Note Thrower

April 2002 " on www.whale.to/a/thrower.html he says the following:

" Between 2,000 and 3,000 families whose children became autistic or had

other serious adverse events after MMR are believed to be now taking

legal action, or actively seeking to take legal action, in the UK,

against MMR manufacturers Aventis Pasteur MSD Ltd, Merck and Company,

Inc., Kline Beecham & French Laboratories Ltd., and Kline

Beecham PLC. The trial date is currently fixed for October 2003 in the

High Court of Justice in London.

" The UK lawyers have stated that a clear pattern of

events began to emerge when they were contacted by families, with

children who had been developing well, both physically and intellectually,

before the MMR vaccine then acquired their autistic state after the

vaccine. This condition was often accompanied by other symptoms, with

sometimes only a gradual decline into autism. Many of these children are

now chronically ill and mentally or physically disabled. "

Thrower's article is like a master cheese-maker who has put so

many holes in the opponents of the connection of the MMR/autism link

that he puts to shame the makers of Swiss cheese. His pen is mightier

than the sword. To say that parents know nothing and you have to have a

fancy degree from Harvard is a fallacy. Parents and independent

researchers are producing the science while the establishment is

producing smoke screens of opinions rather than solid science.

One other thing that Thrower states is the following:

" In June 2000, a study for the Mental Health Foundation found that the

annual costs of autistic disorder in the UK were at least one billion

pounds, individual lifetime costs per child could run to 2.94 million

pounds each. "

Similar estimates apply to autism in the US. Can our local, state and

Federal governments afford to finance this? Are profits of products more

important than the human and economic costs of autism. The storm clouds

are on the horizon and it will be up to the medical community and the

federal health agencies to do the right thing. If they don't then they

will pay the price. Believe me, that price will be high. The public will

not be forgiving for their obfuscation of the truth. No one would be

forgiving for deliberate falsehoods that lead to children being

permanently disabled.

Many treatment modalities that help children get better are immune in

nature such as the intravenous gamma globulin, the gluten free/casein

free diet, secretin and the MT protocol developed at the Pfieffer

Treatment Center by Dr. Bill Walsh in Naperville, Illinois. To date, the

NIH is not interested in helping children with autism get better because

they are not funding independent immunology studies and treatment

modality studies.

I urge all parents to support the Autism Autoimmunity Project and Casi's

Quest, our Florida chapter to help our children. Also, please write your

representatives in the US Congress and US Senate to ask them to get the

NIH to fund independent research into the immunology/gastrointestinal

link with autism. We need to get on their cases if we want to help our

children.
