Guest guest
I personally don't recommend hooked on phonics for kids. It is too boring. I used it on my older ds now 10 when he was 5(diagnoses non-verbal LD) and had to modify a lot. They have tapes that repeat over and over 3 X everything and he was irritated with it before we finished the ABC tape. I ended up using it(I spent $250 on it) but never used the tapes and the reading material was inappropriate for young child(problem being can be used to teach adults too). Now had a friend with non-LD dd borrow for a while and it worked so well she went out and bought it but all in all I think there are much better reading programs out there for kids. You might try home schooling resources for a funner one. Someone was recommending a $12 book off Amazon she was having good luck with on her apraxic child but there are a bunch of similar titled teach reading books so I am no longer sure which one it is. Also my ds received phonics game for gift and it seemed to have less to do with reading and more to do with teaching spelling and spelling rules. Ds absolutely hates it so we have used it little. I am saving it for younger apraxic ds in case he needs extra work on spelling. Good luck finding something. Guest guest
I've been using the book, " Teach Your Child to Read in 100 easy Lessons " . I have taken a break on it, but it seems like an easy way to teach kids to read. It's very repetitive, but it really concentrates on the sounds. It's also relatively inexpensive at $14. Here's the link to the book on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0671631985/qid=1019847886/sr=8 -1/ref=sr_8_71_1/104-9094729-3277535 Amazon has sample pages, so you can look at a great deal of the book before you buy it.
