Guest guest
I have been reading all of the vaccination posts and I am a little worried. My son will be 5 years old in a month and will be getting 2 booster shots at his well-care\Pre-Kindergarten checkup. They are the DTP and MMR. What should I ask the Pediatrician before I let him administer these? Is there something I should be looking for on the bottle, like a date that makes them safe from Mercury or whatever? Any and all responses are appreciated. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Liz, From what I understand the MMR shot comes to the doctor in powder form, it needs to be mixed then used promptly. My pediatrician feels that IF the MMR shot is responsible for problems it is probably due to it not being " fresh " enough. The reason it comes in powder form is because as soon as it is mixed it begins to 'breakdown'. That at least is the gist of what I was told, perhaps a nurse or dr. in this group could shed some more light on this. I have friends who work as assistants in various pedo offices. They tell me often that doctors will use vaccines that are cloudy (should be clear) or have expired recently. I personally ask my pediatrician to draw the shots in front of me and to see the bottle it came from. I also ask to see the certification of anyone who administers or draws the shots. (my girlfriend gives vaccines in her pedo office, the doctor taught her how --- no certification or class ever taken) They look at me weird but they do it. It makes me feel better to know the vaccine wasn't expired, the technician or assistant is qualified and by being a concerned parent I figure they will be extra careful with my little one. Good luck, ask lots of questions. I work in the dental field and patients that are concerned and ask questions in our office are very rare but welcome. And when a patient shows signs of being concerned we make sure from that point forward that everything is clear for that patient, we even have obtained literature and other materials for patients to help them feel at ease with whatever procedure they are having done. >I have been reading all of the vaccination posts and I am a little worried. >My son will be 5 years old in a month and will be getting 2 booster shots at >his well-care\Pre-Kindergarten checkup. Guest guest
I wanted to put my two cents in, I found at the CDC website a ton of information about the correlation between autism and mmr vaccines, their site is www.cdc.gov and I typed autism vaccine into the search on the site, got a pile of stuff, including explanations of the studies done so far in various countries and the CDC's take on it. For any Canadians, a lot less info but nevertheless here is the Canadian Pediatrics Association site (I could only find any info in the professionals area) www.cps.ca . I talked to the Simcoe County District Health Unit this afternoon, they told me that the product labels for the vaccines given here do not list mercury. They do list an antibiotic to prevent corruption of the vaccine. (omitted to write down the name.) Confirming this with your medical professional for Canadians anyway may be reassuring as mercury seems to be the main concern. This may be an unpopular point of view but I would like to say that my personal feeling on it is that until I know there is a correlation, I am vaccinating my children - I would rather have them alive and afflicted than dead from something preventable like mumps or measles. , mom of Riley 6,apraxia, Zachary 8, Avery
Guest guest
hi liz... you should definitely take precautions with the vaccinations...they all shoud be thimerosal(mercury) free...if possible consider giving each vaccination one at a time and span them out over several months...i've also read that giving vitamins a & c may help protect against adverse reactions... have you checked mmr vaccine titers ( antibody levels)?...you know your child more than anyone, so if you are not ready to give the vaccinations, don't...be prepared ...good luck...joann (j.c.
