Liz,

You want to be sure the DPT contains no themerisol. That is what the type of

mercury is called. As a parent of two kids with disabilities, one for sure I

know is set off by vaccinations (my son has autism) let me tell you what few

parents know. You mention your child is Pre-K....did your child have the first

MMR? If so, request a titer test. It is a blood test that quickly tells if you

child is immune to measles (the reason they give the second shot). 95% of the

time, the first shot is enough to build the immunity. They give the second as a

precaution to make sure because they would rather get the money for giving the

shot (it's bread and butter for doctors) than to do the blood test. I asked for

the blood test on both of my children and they were immune. The doctor signed

off on the second booster. End of struggle. :-) If you do decide to do both

shots, I'd suggest spacing them out. There is a cut-off date that your child

must have the immunizations updated. Here in Oregon, that is in February.

That would give you time to wait a few months between shots. Because my first

two have disabilities I have been VERY careful with my third. She only gets one

shot at a time and NONE with themerisol. So far she is developing typically.

Good luck with your decision.

Re: [ ] Vaccination Coming Up..Please Help!

I have been reading all of the vaccination posts and I am a little worried. My

son will be 5 years old in a month and will be getting 2 booster shots at his

well-care\Pre-Kindergarten checkup. They are the DTP and MMR.

What should I ask the Pediatrician before I let him administer these? Is there

something I should be looking for on the bottle, like a date that makes them

safe from Mercury or whatever?

Any and all responses are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
